Question opinions wanted re: ammo test

I just ordered a box of 230 grain hst and 230 hydrorshock. i know you are supposed to do an ammo test before you carry for self defense . As far as I have read the guns are not to fussy in general for hp of most types ammo and feed problems seem to rare. 1000 rounds as a test would be 400. per ammo type. since the gun is massed produced is it really necassary to do and redo the function test?

I think you should feel good if you shoot about 40 of the specific round before depending on it, but the more the better. But, don't stop there. Shoot a few rounds of your carry ammo at least every few range sessions to make sure it is still feeding properly and you have a feel for the way it shoots. The HST is definitely affordable enough to shoot a mag on a regular basis. This should include several series of double-taps and strings of rapid fire to try and expose any feeding or ejection issues. Also, use the magazine that will actually hold the rounds. You should have pretty good confidence at this point.

I haven't found any HP PD rounds which have a problem with my XD45s. After about 500rnds of target ammo, I usually run about 100rnds of PD ammo through them (either Win Ranger RA45T or TP and GA Gold dots, all 230gr), and if I have zero malfunctions, I consider them good-to-go. I've shot 300+ PD rounds so far, zero problems.

that is the question although an analogy to another mass produced product is your car ... we don't test the airbags on our personal auto. The air force does not require a test of each ejection seat. etc. The thing is mass produced which does add some foibles but in concept should be reliable especially if no one else here says there are a lot of problems with insert the type of ammo here.

airbags are also secondary to a seat belt.
airbags also don't rely on physics and friction, plus moving metal parts moving flawlessly. a better analogy would be comparing engine lifespan on two identical cars, but noting how the engine was broken in, oil change frequency, yada yada.

I think 100 rds is enough for any ammo test, along with regularly shooting the gun a bit and proper cleaning.
