I have a close female friend who's keel and beam aren't quite as proportional as she would like, and sounds similar to your situation. She has an XD9SC. She tried my XD45 service compact with some holsters and there was really no appreciable concealment difference, and, if anything, the sc was better for her.

Now I'm not sure exactly how the physiological differences between men and women effect concealed carry, however, Fist seems to have some ideas on the issue as they have a line of concealed carry holsters made just for women. Perhaps one of these would solve your problems. http://www.fist-inc.com/holsters/lady/Default.htm

XD45 Compact

I love mine it conceals great, I think the chopped grip 4" barreled guns are the way to go for CC. The barrel is easy to conceal and for me the grip is just right, not a noticeable difference when shooting, but a big difference when concealing. I hope SA will make compact versions of their 9's and .40's. They will shoot better than the sc, and conceal almost as good, for me the same because I carry inside waist. Once again all this info is relative to you, you are the most important one to consider, how you carry, how it feels and how you like it. I personally can not think of why I would want the full size XD if the compact was available unless it was just to shoot. Just me.
Good Luck and Be Safe!

Those are some of my exact thoughts BB... the MAIn reason for the gun is for CC so I don't want something big and ridiculous.

I want it small and easy to conceal... yet powerful enough to do damage to the big guy.
