I have heard pepper spray before and it was based upon the extra sensitive noses of the bear and the highly irritating affect the spray has, but I do not know.
I was just wondering if the repugnant odor of what was in my pants after the point the bear charged would have a similar effect since I am almost 100% sure it would be availible long before the bear was within 25 feet! I would not enter the woods in an area where serious critters were wandering without serious fire power. Shoot, most trips around here in Missouri are totally safe, but I most often have the 300 mag with me as I trample the weeds. I would not feel real safe even with that if a bear was within 50 yards of me and acted pissed.
