I have a xd .45 4", and when I first took it out to shoot, I bought some cheap "CCI Blazer Brass" 230gr fmj (yeah right they were copper washed). In 300 rounds I had multiple problems with the extracting round digging into the bullet of the top round in the magazine. As far as I could tell the rim of the extracting round was actually cutting into the bullet, until it impacted the case neck. This was causing the round to eject just enough to catch the edge of the slide, and lock the slide half open. When I inspected the round that was in the magazine, I noticed that the bullet wash was cut into down into the lead, and the brass case was actually peeled back a millimeter or two.
I figured that it was the cheap bullets used, and haven't purchased any since. When I used winchester target loads (230gr fmj) from wally world, my xd performs like a champ. I am starting to make my own loads, and wondering if anyone has had similar problems either with the CCI Blazer Brass, or using 230gr RN hard cast lead bullets. Thanks for any help |

It sounds to me like maybe your mags are out of spec and allowing the bullets to sit too high. Maybe someone can measure the gap in their feed lips and you 2 can compare notes...

Welcome to the forum! If you don't mind me asking, where did you earn your CIB?

This may be a problem with the magazine, but if both mags had this problem, it could be the new springs in the mags. I shot about 300 rnds of Winchester white box through my XD45 and then ran a full box of CCI Blazer Brass out of the gun without a malfunction or damage to the brass. My 2 cents.
