What should I have done at Springer?

I talked to Scott. Nice guy. I want a carry trigger and some sights put on. Ramp polish at $15 is no big deal.

Is the factory clean up worth it? Anyone have it done?

I'm a lefty but don't see a need to do the slide release. Is there anything else I should consider to get the most out of my shiping?

I'm ne expert. This is my only gun for home and range. I doubt I need anything fancy, but just though I would ask with all the great help on this site. Thanks

Carry Trigger and Night Sights are all it SHOULD need.
However, I ALWAYS tell the smith to give it a once over and see if there's anything else it needs. Scott's very good and if he knows what you're planning on using it for and your skill level, he'll go out of his way to make it better for you.
So I'd say that that would probably fall under the heading of "Factory Cleanup".

I hit reply then realized I don't have anything worth while to add to the discussion. Never had a trigger job, have had night sights installed locally, never had feed ramp polished.... But but but, what I can say is...

God Bless the sponsers! Thanks for using Springer!

I had Scott do the "Factory Cleanup" (since I spent so much to get it there ) because I thought it was a good idea to have the smith go over everything and polish it for smoother action and to see if the slide needed tightening, etc. The whole purpose was to smooth the operation. To me it was relatively cheap. I also had the grip tape installed and I'm real happy with the decreased slip while in my hot sweaty hands during the summer. I would NOT recommend the grip tape for IWB carry and maybe OWB carry since it is rough enough to snag clothing.

I had him install night sights and do a trigger job. My gun shoots great. Did not have a clean up done or the feedramp polished. Feedramp seems fine to me as is. Its not a 1911, it works right out of the box.

What does a "factory cleanup" entail? And how much does it cost?

I have disassembled my Compact 45 and didn't really see any burring or casting seams of apparent significance which would seem logically to be things covered in a "factory cleanup". However, I'm new to this aspect of weapons and may not be aware of what I am looking for. The ramp seems very smooth and polished to me as is although the ramp could fit a little better with and be a little better aligned with the locking block face. However, I don't know that it is worth a custom barrel or "factory refit" to fine tune the alignment or that a ramp polish would be all that much different. Or would it?

I know from other hobbies (most specifically automotive and scuba) that what seems unimportant or insignificant to a novice may actually make a surprising difference. The greatest issues I find with the weapon are the annoying huge pre-travel and the sear not being quite as smooth as I would wish which a trigger job as Powerman is already planning would correct I would assume (or not?).

I'm not trying to hijack the thread. It just seems that my questions dovetail exactly with Powerman's question as to "best bang for the shipping cost" and it didn't seem worth starting another thread over. If I'm out of line to ask these questions here by forum norms, I apologize and will start a separate thread.

Scott did a carry trigger, factory cleanup, cut slide stop, and installed Truglo TFOs on my .45 service model. "Necessary" is a very relative term. The XD shot just fine right out of the box. But it shoots mo' betta now. I am the definite weak variable in the gun-ammo-shooter equation. The trigger overtravel and reset are shortened and the break is clean. I'm a lefty, so the cut slide stop makes it easier for me to release with my trigger finger if needed. I use the overhand method to rack the slide, but like the option. The Truglos give a good sight picture and are easy to pick up. As someone mentioned earlier, the cleanup allows a top notch smith to inspect and square away my weapon. I got mine back from Scott IN 6 DAYS TOTAL, and yes, shipping is high but a necessary evil. I would HIGHLY recommend his work without hesitation. Some may feel that the money is better spent on ammo for training, but I say life is short, do both.

On my Compact .45, had Scott do the trigger job and adjust the trigger pull weight to 4.5 pounds. That's the trigger pull weight on all of my pistols. He also drastically shortened the take-up and trigger reset.

He also installed the Dawson low profile night sights and undercut the trigger guard for me. The trigger guard undercutting makes a huge difference in how the pistol feels in my hand. My hand just seems to slip into position now with the undercut.

Finally, he installed the extended magazine release. With my short thumbs I was having a little trouble ejecting the mags. Although the extended mag release solved that problem, I had to take a small screwdriver and pry out the mag catch hole on my magazines as the mags wouldn't stay in. Scott told me this is a common occurance with the extended mag release and the way I rectified the problem is correct.

Scott's work is terrific. He does an outstanding job for a very fair price and his turn time is incredible. Excellent work!

The more I handle and shoot this pistol (about 1K so far and growing each week!) the more I like it!

I had all the goods done to mine. You can see it on the work order form for the X-grip.(Kicks a$s) Or my avatar. But once again Scott does awesome work. The polishing up of everything is awesome going together with a good lube like slide glide or gunbutter.
