New XD 45 service

Just picked up the baby today I brought this baby for my B-day. I am ready to go to the range soon. If there is anything I should know about before I hit the range any advice is welcome.

Maybe it's just me, but I would strip it, inspect it, and be sure it is properly oiled before firing it. It shouldn't be necessary, but sometimes the slide rails need a little more lubrication. Have fun and be safe!

When I got home I took it apart an check it and it was oiled and everything looked fine, but I am no gunsmith thats why I will go to the range and check it out. I also did some dry firing and seems ready to go. Thanks for the reply. Slugger6

I have the same one; shot it over the weekend and had a blast
After the first 200 rounds I broke it down just to look at it then put another box through it.

You will need some type of pain medicine taken shortly after your range time. I recommend two hours after done shooting. More milligrams will depend on how many rounds you put through it. I recommend Tylenol, but your results may vary.

Oh, the pain medicine it isn't for your wrist. It's for your face. After firing your new weapon, you'll be so happy with yourself for purchasing it, that your smile just won't go away. My face hurt for days.....

I've got 500 rounds (so far) from my new XD 45 Service I purchased recently for my birthday. I am extremely happy with my decision. You will be as well I'm sure.

Sounds like you are prepared to go. Start with 100 rounds minimum, and shoot at closer ranges like 7 or 10 yards to start. That is what I did to build confidence in myself and my new gun. I'm not new to guns, but am not proficient with pistols. I have become much better and much more confident since putting 500 rounds through my own.

Your experiences with handguns will determine whether my advice fits or not. It worked for me so I thought I would share. The trigger becomes sweet and consistent every shot by 500 rounds.

Happy Birthday!

I always shoot with about 2-300 rnds of factory ammo (Winchester WinClean) for new guns before I switch to reloads... that way I can establish a baseline... but thats just me...

Great Birthday Present

I make the 3rd one to get an XD 45 Service for their b'day in just this thread. Nice present, isn't it?

I checked mine and filed stripped it before hitting the range. It was good to go right out of the box.
