I have had nothing but problems with Wolf ammo. I sent 250 rounds of brass through it when I first got my XD 45 without ANY problems. I bought 1000 rounds of Wolf, and the feed problems started. They have always gone bang when in battery and I pulled the trigger, but it seems that my magazine doesn't like them at all. I was at the range this last Sunday, and had about 70 rds or so to push through it, and I had feed problems with about 10 rounds. I couldn't load my mags full either. That seemed to help the problem, but not solve it.
Springfield said to try loading my mags halfway and run them that way until the follower and the mag side walls were smoothed out a bit. Then, load them almost full and run them that way. Load it full after a couple of hundred rounds and it should be fine. I was told that this should solve the problem. We'll see. I think I will stick with brass when I carry. I still have to get my CCW though. |

I went to the range about a week ago. One box was good to go and didn't foul my mags up. The other box did. It's almost like some of it has more rough casings than others. Wiping it down first helps. And yes, the casings do leave a little crud behind on the rag. I won't be buying anymore, as I've had 0 problems with Winchester, Federal, CCI, American, and Remington.
Time for another range trip ASAP, gotta try out the suresights. Are some of you saying Wolf is loaded lighter? I must admit, that I don't notice the difference while shooting between Wolf and +P hollow points (Not that I have tried a side by side comparison). I focus on the target and sight picture, pull the trigger, and it goes boom. I do notice the difference in the .50 AE, that gets my attention every time. |

If possible use the polymer coated Wolf. The Lacquer Wolf was known to bind in the chamber. As for the steel case, during WW2 steel cased ammo was in fact used for 45 ACP as brass was in short supply. Extractor replacement is relatively easy (except for the XD gun). If you cannot strand the idea of a premature extractor replacement then keep with either CCI Blazer aluminum or brass.....

Having to make sure to use the right kind of Wolf and reading about Wolf jamming magazines is enough ground for me to call Wolf crappy ammo. I don't care if steel cased ammo was used back then. We used to cruise around in wagons and on horseback back then too, but I like my Dodge Ram better! I don't mean to step on any toes!
If I ever buy an AK or SKS, I will feed it nothing BUT Wolf. For everything else, I'll use bulk reloads.
