Crack or molding scar?
Hi there, just registered and am a new xd 45 compact owner. This board is invalueable when it comes to helpfull info.
I've shot it a bunch, don't keep track of the rounds but noticed something; If you look at the rear of the pistol, up and to the right of the grip saftey on the frame I noticed two marks that almost look like cracks. They both start at the top of the saftey's channel, then one extends up to the very corner of the back frame, maybe 12mm long, and the other seems to go streight to the grip saftey pin-hole at 10mm long. If I put pressure I can't see any flexing or expanding of the lines. Seems pretty solid, but at the same time they look enough like cracks to concern me. I have been shooting quite a few +p loads through it but I feel this pistol should be able to handle that. I am hopeing that it is some kind of air/pressure release for the molding process and someone else PLEASE tell me yours has the same lines and it's fine. I really do like this pistol. I'm a ruger fan and decided to wait on the p345 to buy this model. Thanks in advance for the help. |

Your right the pictures are bad but I call tell you that I have no diagonal lines running from the grip safety area. I too would suggest you get some better pictures and contact Springfield. Manufacturers want to know when they have failures in the field.

Don't panic, my XD-45c has the same marks. Some weird molding deal where the polymer squirted into the mold or something. It's not a crack.

The better pictures reveal a lot. They are not cracks but parting line in the mold. I got to tell you though mine has nothing like that so I'm sure they have one cavity in their mold that is pretty good.

Kind of looks like a discoloration/poor mixing of the polymer to me. Like the others said, the one running parrallel to the grip safety and right down the middle of the gun is just the parting line for the molding process.
