Compact 45 Xd
Hi i am new to the forum and have been goin crazy the last few weeks trying to figure out which gun to buy, i have narrowed it down to the xd compact 45 in 4 or 5 inch. this is my first handgun so i want to make sure i get the gun thats right for me, i basically want to shoot at the range and carry concealed. I went to gander mountain and handled alot of guns, i really like the sight radius of the 5 inch and how it comes up and feels but dont know if its too big for a ccw, lol i like the 4 inch too but is the tactical more accurate? please help me out so i can get my new gun already
thanks |

The Tac may be a little more accurate beyond 20-25yds, but anything closer than that and the 4" will hold it's own. Some do carry the Tac, but it's a little harder to carry the 5". The Compact comes with the shorter 10rnd mag which makes it much easier to conceal. It also comes with the standard 13rnd mag (with a mag spacer) when you need/want full capacity.
Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum.
I carry the 45 tactical, and I like it. But the service I think is best for CCW for me. I say service first for you. ![]() |

My first post here. I'm buying the Compact 45 tomorrow. Got a holster on order (I'm a lefty) I chose the Compact for concealability. I've seen the compact w/ the 5" barrel. It's nice but too hard for me to carry.
Shot my buddies full size and I really like this gun. I've got small hands and can now shoot a hi-cap 45ACP. Recoil is about the same as my Kahr P9. Good luck w/ whatever you choose. |

Finding a holster that you really like for concealed carry is often even more difficult than finding the handgun you like. There are a lot more options available to choose from right now for the 4" barreled models than there are for the 5" barreled models.

Get the Compact if you're going to use it for carry. With the 13rd extended mag, you essentially have the option of making it the same size as the Service model... so it is more or less two handguns in one.

The only XD I own is a 45 Compact. I do not have the need for another. I am glad I did not get the service, in that the grip is a little big to hide on my thin waist. I would not want the 5" Compact, because it is harder for me to get a 5" gun up and out of the Holster. If that is not a problem for you, you may want to consider the 5" compact. Out to 25 yards, I have not felt that the 4" barrel has been lacking.
One important part of gun buying. Buy the model that gets you most excited and you seldom go wrong. Good Shooting! |

Welcome to the forum....
I chose the compact 45 over the tactical because of the shorter grip. The shorter grips makes concealing a little easier and it doesn't both me since I have small hands. You'll get the 13rn extension mag to bring the grip up to the full size if you prefer. |
