The GAP is shorter, and not as commonly used as the ACP, which is longer.

They fire the same bullet, but they were designed by 2 different companies.

The GAP is on it's way out, the ACP will be here forever.

The .45 GAP (left) is shorter than the .45 ACP (right), and bullets above 200 grains in weight eat up enough available case volume so that it becomes tough to replicate standard .45 ACP velocities

The GAP was a Glock abortion...
Instead of designing a pistol that would fire a proven round, they tried to redesign a round to fit their gun. Some manufactures thought it would catch on and designed their own guns but its not going to take off like Glock hoped. It was their way of stuffing a .45 caliber round into a .40 sized frame.

Although no one said it, and it should be obvious, you can't fire the .45 GAP in a .45 ACP weapon and vice versa. Just trying to keep you safe

If I recall the history correctly (and that's a big if), the purpose behind the GAP round was to give civilian handgun owners a big-bore ammunition option with the ballistics of an ACP round in a package that was smaller, but more importantly, legal. Many European countries have a black-list of calibers illegal to own because they're classified as "military" applications, and I think the GAP round was an attempt to get around this.

And, of course, ole' Gaston wanted an excuse to put his name on a new cartridge.
