XD 45 ACP Magazine question
Hi
I recently bought a brand new xd, with 13 round magazines. My question is, why is it that when i fill the mag all the way, the 8th round seems to be lose and rattles around in the mag ? Im thinking that maybe its just because its brand new and needs to break the spring in a little, but whats a good way to do this? thanks |

XD 45 ACP Magazine question
Try loading 3-4 rounds, then put your thumb on the top round and push down. While you are doing this, bang the butt of the mag on the heel of your hand. This straightens the spring. Repeat every 4 rounds. We do this when we load our mags in IPSC, it works.

Huh!!! How did you determine that??
The XD45 has a double stack mag. meaning the rounds are staggered from side to side instead of in a vertical line. It is not unusual for two or more bullets to load in line instead of staggering so you tap the mag to get the bullets to spread out. Ever seen of recent war movie where the soldier is loading magazines and strikes them on his helmet? Well that is what he is doing, spreading or seating the rounds in the mag. It's nothing to worry about.

and FYI the XD9 subcompact mags like to do it too, but oddly my 16rd mags are both rattle free without a tap to seat the rounds.
go figure |

It doesn't "spread out" anything. It's to keep the bullets fully rearward in the magazine body, and the tips away from the front wall of the magazine. It's thought to ensure more reliable feeding.
