Tactical slide on compact frame?

I remember seeing a few pics of a guy that swapped his slides and frames around. I was wondering if anyone else had done this and actually shot them. Could be interesting to buy the compact and tactical, and then have the service and compact tactical too.

AKM is the guilty party.

Enjoying my XD .45ACP Tactical. need to break in my 870, and my wife's XDSC9.

I carry my XD45 ACP Tactical, in a SuperTuck from CB. Very comfortable, easy to hide, easy to draw, and easy to reholster.

Looking for an HDR*, either an AR-180B, or Kel-Tec FBR.

HDR, Homeland Defense Rifle

Very Interesting. If that works, all that those of us who own the service would have to do is by a replacement tactical slide and barrel, and have a two gun option.
I am very curious about this. I would think that there has to be frame differences between the two that would make them incompatable. If I am wrong, this would take off like wildfire!

Nope, they are interchangable

Be careful. As a gun shoots a lot, the slide and frame wear together. It's not a good idea to go switching parts and then shoot a lot. When U swop back, tolerances may not be as good.

Now, this is a lot bigger issue on an all metal gun than it would be on polymer framed guns. But, I personally wouldn't do it.

Biggest problem may be getting a tactical slide from Springfield with the parts policy.

that slide WILL NOT fit on a 3" Sub-compact. I tried to fit my 4" slide on my dads 3" frame and it wouldn't even go on the weapon. The barrels between the SC and the 4" don't interchange either the barell on the 3" slide is much thicker than the 4" barell and the 4" will just wobble arond inside the SC slide.

I was referring to the XD45s only, tactical and compact. I already have a service and was wondering compatibility. I have swapped around barrels and slides on a few of my glocks and they functioned fine.
