Unhappy Guns And Ammo Review

New member here -

Yesterday I rec'd the March issue of G&A, and it has a review of the XD-45 compact. I'm saving up for one of these. I was surprised that although their test gun held tight groups and shot to point of aim at 10 yds, the groups opened up to 3" to 7" at 25 yds and were 10 to 12 inches low - and from a sandbag rest. I rented an XD-45 one time, but only shot it at targets under 10 yds away - and it shot pretty much to point of aim. Has anyone experienced their gun shooting really low at 25 yds?

Yeah, mine does. That was one of the reasons I put a TLR-2 on it.

I just subscribed to G&A at the Colorado ICE event last week. They gave me a copy of the March issue but have not read it yet.

Did they talk about what types of ammo they were shooting through the gun? Did they show any stats and deviation regarding number of shots / ammo type? Shooting from a sandbag rest gets you OK groupings but is not bench. Lot of human factors still come into play shooting from sandbags no matter what type of firearm you are shooting.

We had guys in the Army shooting M16's from a prone supported position (prone w/ Sandbag) who could not hit the 25M targets as an example. Nothing wrong with the weapon.

BTW: Welcome to the forum.

They tested 6 different types of FMJ and HP ammo, and said that everything grouped low. I was just surprised at this - my 1911 doesn't have any problems.

I probably should know but I don't - what is a TLR-2?

Thanks

Seeing as how this gun was designed to be more concealable and carried concealed, 1.4 inches at 10 yards (30 FEET) aint to bad, in my opinion. This is NOT a target pistol.

It may have been that particular pistol to.

Laser-light combo that mounts to the accessory rail.

TLR-2 is a light / laser combo.

Looking at some of the balistics tables. .45 230 Gr zeroed at 25 yards shows a drop of ~2.0" at 50 yards. Maybe someone else with a XD 45 has more insight. The XD 45's I have shot have all been at an indoor range at 10 yards shooting Point of Aim.

I will need to do some shooting with my XD45ACP at 25 yards. I don't recall having such a problem. I guess it is possible with heavy bullets and poofy loads.

how easy and fast is the TLR-2 to attach and detach from your XD? i am looking to get a rail mounted light/laser, but it looks like it would take too long to attach with that thumb screw.

I have a TLR-2 and can remove or install it in a matter of seconds. A couple of turns of the screw, push it in and off it comes. I use a quarter to make sure it is tight and I also make sure it is in the same groove on the rail (front) and back as far as it will go in the groove each time. I haven't had to re-adjust the laser because it is always on the mark after installation! The real advantage is the three position switch to select light, laser, or laight & laser. The switch and on/off are easily reached from shooting position and are ambidexterous.
