Recoil spring
Newb question here
I just bought a 5" Tactical and noticed the recoil spring is VERY heavy. The 230 ball ammo I shot was fine, but with the 200 gr lswc handloads the brass wouldn't even eject. These loads have been shot in three different 1911's, 4 S&W's and 1 Glock (same load, jacketed bullets) with no cycling probs. Are all the 5" springs this heavy? Thanks for any info. |

I've shot 230 gr ball loads and they were fine, I've also shot 200 gr handloads from my friend that reloads, along with some cheap dirty stuff from Dick's, and it took it all just fine. How many rounds do you have down the pipe so far? Is/was your gun dirty?

I shot the first 50 with Blazer brass and then went to the handloads. And no, it wasn't dirty and it was well lubed (not over lubed). I thought I would ask here before I went to buying springs, but I know I need to get a few hundred rds downrange before I get too excited. Thanks for the reply.
ETA: I would have loved to shoot it more that day, but it was about 25 degrees and about a 30 mph wind....it was fricken cold (or maybe I'm a big wussy boy) Last edited by goldeyeslayer : 01-30-2007 at 06:47 PM. |

The XD45 is set up for full power loads. If you are shooting reduced power loads they may fail to eject. 200gr LSWCs at 750-800fps eject fine.
