With confirmation from here and looking at new ones at Gander Mountain over the weekend I am satisfied with the responses. The new ones look the same as mine. I am kind of suprised that ones with only a couple of shots through them would look this way. Don is a great source of info, and we all look forward to the purchase of our own individual Dgr

The dual return spring arrangement is of the captive type; when assembled, the front of a spring guide rod projects slightly forward from the front of the slide; Springfield advertising literature calls this a "muzzle protector", but the original text of patent WO02059539, published in August 01, 2002 and granted to the Croatian design team, describes the reason for this feature as to "enable firing the bullet when the pistol is pushed towards someone's back". This is "necessary" because HS2000, as almost any other modern pistol, has a disconnector safety that does not permit the release of the striker if the slide is not fully closed and locked to the barrel, and such situation can be easily encountered in circumstances described in the quote. So, do the aftermarket rods allow you to shoot even if your XD is shoved into someone's back?

A neighbor is a city cop who said they recently had handgun drills where they had to use their off hand to keep the slide in battery then pull the trigger to fire the weapon. I think they use Glocks. The whole exercise was in preparation for just the event of having to fire the weapon when the muzzle is pushed against an object...as in someone's torso. I can't remember what he said, but it was a high enough percentage where this occurs in police shootings that they train for it.

Guide Rods
I couldn't help seeing that you guys are having trouble with the XD45 compact guide rods maring the finish. There is a guy I have dealt with before on the Sig forum who makes custom stainless guide rods for Sigs and some other makes. Maybe he could make one for the XD45 that doesn't have the nail head on the end. I have bought for my Sigs and I can tell you the work is outstanding. If there is enough interest I'm sure he will make some. Here is his website:

Thanks for the input sig2009, but I imagine we would all feel better using Don for our XD needs. He is not only a commercial sponsor, but in my short time as an XD owner he has proven to be one Hellova great guy. I imagine he will get the few sheckles more that I spend on my XD.

Devil Dawg,
I was not aware someone was producing the guide rods already. Sorry if I steped on anyones toes. Are his guide rods minus that anoying nail head tip? Where do you purchase them? I am new to the board and the XD45 and would be interested in purchasing one. |
