You might want to try a different ammo with a different bullet profile. I'm wondering if round #10 is hitting the slide stop when it rises to the top of the magazine?

Easy anough to check. Load ten rounds and put mag in gun. With slide locked open, see if round 10 is coming close to the slide stop.

Good luck

I'll have to do that when I get home and see if it comes close.

You didn't mention if this is a new gun. Mine had an intermittent slide locking problem related to the spring being out of position. Can't explain the every 10 rnds thing. Mine would fire anywhere from 2 to 5 rounds before locking back.

You might check this just to be sure. With the slide off the gun, push the slide stop lever up and release. Does it stay up or does it snap back down.

My new gun came like the out of the box. Leg of spring should be on top of the stop lever.

Easy enough to check. Load ten rounds and put mag in gun. With slide locked open, see if round 10 is coming close to the slide stop.

Good luck
I ran a couple of mags of ammo through it by racking the slide (not actually firing) and it didn't lock early. #10 comes as close to the slide stop as any other round in the mag

The pistol has 819 rounds through it to date (63 mags worth). I flipped the frame upside down to check the springiness of the slide stop lever and it did spring back to place. I looked at the spring leg and it seems to be in place.

Looks like I should try one of these to help my new found thumb problem.
XD Thumb Rest

Thanks for all everyones replies

well i opened my mouth and blabbed about grip and yadda yadda yadda, well today while shooting my .45 service for the first time, the slide locked on the tenth round. i was using 230 gr. wolf fmj ammo and i pray its the ammo's fault. i really dont believe i bumped the slide lock during fire. i shot 150 rounds,50 wolf and 100 wwb, and it happened once. it was a brand new gun, until this morning. overall i am happy and excited with my purchase.

Not yet, I haven't been back to the range. I do need to go within the next week.

hello. long-time lurker, 1st-time poster here. this same thing happened with my XD45 last night on our second trip to the range. I couldn't see anything obviously activating the slide lock lever.
I looked things over, checked the chamber, released the slide and finished the magazine. A buddy who was with me took over for a couple mags worth and it happened with him. this was with winchester white-box.
I almost started a new thread, wondering what exactly to call it. "…maybe Premature Slide Lock".
then I remembered to search first and found this aptly-named thread. I also found a number of other similar discussions, most of which were XD40 related. some pursued the warranty route but results there were mixed.
another guy did a very thorough set of experiments that seemed to have conclusive results.

tonight I'll take the slide off and see what the clearance looks like.
might have to send back for one of those extra-stiff slide lock springs and/or shortened slide lock nub.

I went to the range again on Monday and shot an additional 94 rounds. I didn't have any slide lock issues, but I am thinking about having the slide lock nub modded by Springer Precision. I am unaware of a stiffer spring being available, where can I get one of those?

check this thread, esp. the posts by 1GKEK. he's the user who sent his back to SA and it came back with a stiffer slide lock spring.
