The spring is mostly acting on the slide motion, So the mass of the slide and the power of the load are related to the recoil spring weight. Think of a tungsten rod as additional weight on the frame helping resist muzzle flip. Only change one thing at a time to see that is going on. Change the rod, see how it feels and maybe that alone will make it fine. Then change springs to see what effect that has for you.
From my 3D models a solid tungsten alloy rod would weigh about 4.8 oz (depends on the actual alloy). My stainless rod weighs about 2.2 oz. My factory rod weighs just over 0.8oz. So you could be adding 4 oz. over factory. |

Do you like Tungsten GR's
You sound like you know the whole guide rod situation. Do you feel a tungsten guide rod is noticable in controlling muzzle flip?

I did not feel much difference with my 9mm Service models, but with the Tactical it is noticable weight.
Playing with the math, a tungsten core it in the stock rod could add about 2.8 oz. I have not actually tried these in my .45ACP Tactical, but I would think it would tame the muzzle quite a bit. |

Just got my tungsten rod for my .45 ACP Tac. Two words: Get one. Noticeably reduced muzzle flip. The gun does feel more nose heavy but I actually kinda like it. If it weren't my carry gun I would send the trigger back out to have it knocked down to 2 lbs and use it as an L10 gun.
Hell, I may just shoot it in production and scare all those folks used to the sound of 9mms with bunnyfart loads in them with the sound of the .45 going off. I'm not really competetive anyways so what the heck!
