Angry Broken Grip Safety Spring

Went to drop my XD45 Service Model in the holster yesterday and noticed a "lazy" grip safety (it just wobbled in and out of the grip safety cut).

Soooo... I got curious and got out my set of punches and disassembled my favorite carry gun; it seems one end of the grip safety spring had broken off (the "short" end of Item 17 below, captured by the cut in the grip safety):

Or #11 from this one (HS2000 manual):

I was able to rework what was left of the spring on a jig I made and got it functioning again; alas, w/SA's draconian parts policy I'll probably be without it for 4-6 weeks for a spring that takes 20-25 minutes for me to replace.

I would ask SA to install night sights on the slide while they have it but after reading another thread on XD-Talk and hearing about how they (SA) sent the poor guys' slide to someone else I think I'll have Old School or Springer do it.

Thumbs down Not good

Sorry to read about this problem. Springs are always a weak area as being heat treated and made in mass's they are under stress so some "not all" will fail. I agree S.A. not allowing small parts to be sold or supplied to owners is a sore point with me and others. I hope this S.A. policy will soon change.

Springs have never been (as a whole) a strong suit for European gunmakers. I concur, either make one yourself, or have SA do it...

BTW, do Sig sights fit the XD? I heard somewhere that the dovetails, both front and rear, are the same as the SIG handguns? And since I have several Sig night sights laying around the shop, I just might install those instead of buying.?

Or else I just might punch them out and measure them myself and see if they spec out...(damn, I'm getting lazy in my old age...)

Talking Hmmm...springs

On a whim I called SA this morning (Monday) and explained my problem.

The grip safety spring is part number XD0014 (everywhere else in the world it's known as part number 152120); the Customer Service rep said they'd mail one out to me today under warranty.

Evidentially they don't feel this is a restricted part (unlike sears or trigger bars)... and my grip safety (while still functioning) will have a brand-new spring in a few days.

OK, now I'm happy!

To answer your sight question, the XD45 indeed appears to take Sig sights:

Trijicon Night Sight Set SG01 fits P225, 226, 228, 239, Sig Pro, Sig Pro 2009. Also fits the Springfield XD-9, XD-40, XD-45 and XD-357. Trijicon SG01 Set has a #8 front & #8 rear.

Cautionary note: Just because these sights fit, be advised that they may not be the same height as yours (read: they may change where the point of aim/impact is), and XD sights are notorious for being a pain in the a$$ to remove/replace because of the tight dovetail).

The SG-01 is the correct set of sights for the XD45ACP.

Glad to hear SA is taking care of you and that all is well.

Merry Christmas.

To further answer your question, look at these threads for XD sight code letters (examine your rear sight... it may have a code letter stamped in it):
http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24570&page=3

And finally, the "sticky" thread on standard Sig sight heights:

EXCEPT for my XD... to adjust point-of-aim/point-of-impact for my gun I'd have to have a #10 front and a #10 rear sight (I had to have SA send me a replacement rear sight because my XD45 hit so darned low).

Hey Old School, can you get a 10/10 night sight set from Trijicon?
