I didn't say I HAD more talent and brains, but that I'd like to think that I...."

I do let the experts do what they're trained to do; however, parts-swappers will never be considered as experts by me.

Anybody could mess up the job/customization and then want SA to fix it under warranty.

Thoughts?
You may be correct on that point. My brothers has been reliable to a fault except he started getting FTFs. Well, knowing his gun maintenance habits, I pulled the firing pin and and let the oil run out of the channel. Cleaned it up and back to business. I did send a nice email to SA about the parts availability issue. I'm sure it's not the first time they've heard of it. Well, maybe soon...........

Buy two XD's then. 1 to use, the other for spare parts. The one for spare parts will just be sitting around because I have yet to hear or read of a major break on an XD that can't be fixed by some simple aftermarket part (i.e. guide rod, spring, etc.).

More Humility? You mean how the rear site is installed so tight that it breaks most rear site adjustment tools. I wonder if freakin reasons like that are why there are no parts out there. Maybe the rest of the gun would be destroyed if we tried to work on it.

I've been a Glock armorer since 1990 and the Glock OEM parts that I have been required to replace due to breakage or wear has been minimal. As a Sigarms armorer I have had to send a couple P2340's back to the company for repair (cracked frames, which were replaced), but I've never had an internal part needing to be replaced.

I like the idea of having parts available to do emergency repairs if needed, but in practice I believe it's a non-issue. I certainly didn't let it keep me from buying both an XD 45 Tac and an XD 45 Compact.
