new to site...new to the xd
love the site..just purchased a new xd 45acp 4 inch in dark earth yesterday after long consideration of what the best all around semi auto .45 pistol in my opinion is.
Even though holding this pistol in my hand was a shock due to the light weight and overall ergonomics, shooting it was an even bigger one. I expected way more recoil and actually i think this has less recoil than a few 40's and 9's i own. This is my first SA pistol, even though its just imported for SA so far so good and cant wait to get more runds shot through it I have some questions if anyone can help id greatly appreciate it... best gun oil to use on this? spray or just regular? how often to clean it? after every shooting session or just at alotted times? interested in tritium sights, i have priced them at around the 100.00$ mrk but whats the install like? again im very excited about this gun and am happy as hell i found this site to help me lol |

Welcome to the forum. Great choice on a .45ACP
I use Militec oil, but any good gun oil will do. Most clean after each range trip, or 200rnds or so, especially if you use really dirty ammo. But it probably isn't really needed that often. TruGlo TFO sights are popular for the XD45, as are Trijicon, Meprolights, etc. I like TFO sights because they give excellent sighting for indoor ranges, as well as at night. Installation can be a real pain, and not for the amateur. Have someone familiar with XD install your sights, whatever brand you choose. I have sent several slides and sights to James (an XD forum sponsor, XD-HS2000.com) for installation. He's very good and only charges $15, which includes return postage. He also sells the TFO sights, as do other forum sponsors (I bought mine from TopGunSupply because they had the green front-yellow rear).

thanks alot for all of the help. I think i have decided to go with a laser sighting system, just shopping on what set up. I bought a paddle holster today from my local gun shop,... pretty good fit i just hope it doesnt hurt the finish of the gun over time. So far shes shot to the the 100rd mark...i went ahead and stripped it down and gave it a good cleaning and oiled it.
This is definitely the smoothest shooting 45 ive ever fired funny thing is my dad is now on the xd band wagon hes hunting a 45 in sub compact form lol |

I clean my xd 45 after each trip to the range no matter how many rounds I fire. Be it one round or 200+ rounds. Having a former marine for a big brother keeps me that way!. I also clean my xd once a week wether or not I have shot it as it is also my carry weapon. For cleaning, I prefer birchwood casey Bore Scrubber. lubrication I choose Hoppes #9 or Hoppes elite gun oil. This frequency of cleaning may not be really needed however, I ask the question, can it hurt to keep your arm clean? |
