Seriously considering....
I live in indiana, and am thinking about a new carry. I have a glock and i like it, but not that much. i have been told about the springfield xd series. I want another 45, and think i might go with the compact. debating on the 4 or 5 inch..... thinking 5, but not sure how easy it will be to conceal, right side iwb and rear iwb. anyone carry there with the 5 inch tac? i also carry a KT 3-AT in my rear right pocket. i guess what im really asking is what everyone else asks when they buy a new springfield on this site, what have you seen between the 2, or even in either that is good, bad, or ugly? also holster for iwb right side and rear right handed. anyone here in indiana and know where i can shoot either the 4 or 5 inch compact/tac? neither stores near me have them to shoot. i thank all of you in advance for any info/comments/smart a** comments.... Thanks
Turbo- new to the XD family but wants in. |

Get the 4" Service Model if you want to use it for concealed carry.

I've got both and that extra inch of barrel can limit your options for concealed carry. Eventually there will likely be a wider range of holsters available, but right now there are a lot more holsters for the 4" than there are for the 5". Also if you are considering an IWB carry, the extra inch can really dig into yout softer parts while seated (depending on your body type and holster position). Add to that the shorter grip that is less likely to print--the choice is pretty clear.
I love to shoot my Tactical, but I carry my Compact. |

I picked up a 45 XD compact --- best of both worlds-- shorter grip with 10 round mag or extended mag with 13 rounds --- 4" barrel. I think the grip on the 5" Tactical will give you as much trouble concealing as the longer barrel.
I've carried a G-26 for years and might see if I can find a holster I can get comfortable with for the XD. Youcould carry the 10 round in the gun and extra 13 round mag --- of course, if you need 23 rounds you're in one heck of a gun fight....... |
