I have both.

XD45 Tactical for gun games

XD45 Service for carry.

The muzzle flip can be reduced with a heavier guide rod and you could put in a heavier spring to reduce the felt recoil. I was going to get a 5", but they are damned hard to get a hold of in my area, so I settled with the 4" version, and to be honest, unless you are going to be shooting at 25 yards or more, I didn't see a difference in my groupings between the two. Out of the box, the 4" felt alittle nicer overall then the 5" did.

How is it that the 4" felt nicer than the 5"??? Wouldn't that extra weight in the front actually dampen muzzle flip compared to the shorter 4" service model?

Apparantly not, a lot of people have reported more muzzle flip with the Tactical than the Service...

Cheers! M2

Like so many others here I chose the 4" for a CCW. I like the 4" guns for that purpose. I have a 4" 1911, also for carry but I have a 5" 1911 for range shooting. If I ever get into competition, I will also get a Tactical XD-45.

I am surprised no one mentioned "looks"

You should buy the 4" Service because it looks so much cooler. The 5" kinda looks a little retarded with the big nose

As for carry, I would carry neither as both are too big. 4" might be a little easier to draw but then again I have never seen a showdown draw in real life.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I find the Tactical to be a beautifully proportioned pistol.

Cartman: I think my Tactical looks just fine, I can draw it quickly and appreciate the 2 inch groups it produces consistantly at 25 yards. Besides the Tactical being a good looking gun, the accuracy potential of the platform is the best feature of this wonderful design. Not to mention it is a soft shooter. What was your last gun? Was that a Red Rider BB gun?
