While I lived in Lompoc for about 3 years, ending this January, I never had an address remotely similar to my buddy's. Furthermore, he is not a shooter. As far as I know, he does not own any guns, and has had no dealings with Springfield Armory or Springfield Custom. He had never heard of them before this shipping mixup. How Springfield combined my name with his address is a complete mystery.

Springfield Custom apparently does not care how long they put their customers' guns out of action. They want to have UPS pick the slide up from my buddy, ship it to their factory, and only then ship it on to me. I do not see why I should have to wait another week or two for a slide that should have been returned 2 weeks ago. I asked Deb why she wanted to do it that way, rather than have UPS ship it directly to me, and will post here again when I get a response.
that is wild why not just have him send it to you

SA has no clue what this other person has done to the receiver while he had it. What if he damaged it? I'm sure they want to check it out before sending it to an already pissed off customer. Imagine how pissed he'd be if he got it back from the other guy and something was screwed up. Who do you think he'd blame? Not the other guy. He would be even more pissed at SA. I think having it shipped directly to the owner from that random guy is not only potentially unsafe, it just wouldn't be very smart from a liability standpoint.

Wink I agree

The slide should be picked up by UPS and returned to S.A. S.A. should inspect it and ship it paid next day air to the owner. Then S.A. should send him a check for $100 no $200 for them being so stupid and causing all this mess.

That's nuts that they sent it to a friend of yours. strange! i really didn't think you had anything to worry about. if the guy was dishonest and UPS had a shipping record, he would have to return it. Otherwise, you could have called the local lompoc sherif's office and they would have gone and picked it up. SA could have picked it up from there.

What does suck though is your wait time. Wow, i'd be more furious about not having my gun for that long. i already refuse to send my gun just for the 2 weeks they claim they can return my gun.

Anyways, glad it turned out alright for you. Take care of yourself and your xd.

Statistically speaking, there's no way in hell SA could combine party with random name and party at random address and have the two parties know each other. Sounds like somehow you're the point of failure here, not SA. I have better odds of winning the lotto while being hit by lightning than SA "randomly" shipping your slide to someone you happen to know.

Yeah...this is just freaky. I'll be interested to know what actually happened.

Did the shipping box you used have your buddys address on it or something of that nature?

For the record I will never use SA for "aftermarket" duties. I'll stick with CC, Springer, Tripp, Robar or any of the other 20+ superior (IMO) companies.

I agree and I think it's interesting how this thread began as "random city, CA" to basically "I just moved from there in January". Well there's a connection worth mentioning in the original post! That's not so random and I agree that sounds like some sort of mail forwarding quirk.

I ordered a laptop from Gateway a few years ago and it went to an address that I lived at 10 years prior. They said they hadn't updated their database. Dell has had no problems getting it correct ever since.

You would have a point, except I did not "just" move from "there." I never had the street address to which SA mailed my slide, or anything close to it. Lompoc is a small town, but it's big enough to have more than a handful of street addresses. My previous residence in Lompoc in no way explains SA's decision to mail my slide to a seemingly random address.

I'm amused that some of you feel compelled to spin unlikely tales to explain SA's "creative" shipping. At least you're good for a laugh.
