Potential trouble with Truglo TFO's

I just returned from a 40 hour firearms instructor course with my XD45acp tactical equipped with Truglo TFO’s grn/yellow. The XD functioned flawlessly, and most everyone was impressed with the guns’ accuracy and performance, except for my partner who shoots a .40 service (so he already knows). The TFO’s were stellar except for the fact that after 1500 rounds in 14 days I noticed about half a millimeter of foreword/backward play in the front fiber optic. Some days we shot no handgun at all (rifle or shotgun) but some other days were 500+ rounds downrange. Has anyone else had this problem with their TFO’s? I’ve only had them on my XD for about 2 weeks before going to school, and wanted to know if this is typical, and if it’s a problem or not. This is my duty weapon, and I don't want "Murphy" messing with my sights in any situations where my weapon will be deployed.

Not sure but watch out for the tube coming out - they can crack at the bottom and then fly out as the slide cycles. Had that happen to one of the back ones on mine. The gun shop put a new one on for free and sent the bad one back to Tru-glo (minus the tube as it flew by my head and then hid in the grass). It is possible the gun shop that put them in got a little too rough with them and it cracked the tube???? Let us know what you find out or what happens with them.

Reply from TruGlo

A representative from TruGlo sent me a message which said that they would replace my front sight in exchange for the old one. My problem is that I had my gun sent off to Springfield so they could do it right and not void my warrantee. TruGlo wants my old front sight back, but I think I will make them pay for the shipping and handling, to and from, if they want their sight back. I just went to firearms instructor school with the TruGlo TFO’s installed on my XD45acp TAC. 5000+ rounds down range in a 2 week practical environment is a sweet piece of technical knowledge for the guys who make the sights. The least they can do for me is replace the sight, and the shipping to and from Springfield.

Sight installation/removal will not void your warranty.

??? i worked at an auto parts store (i promise it will make sense in a second) we sold a part to someone they took it to a real (note quality) shop and had them install it. If they come back telling us the part faild not only do we have to give them a new part but (as long as the failure was not made by the installer) we had to pay for the second installation as well. they should do the same with your sight...

An easy policy to create when you are not the manufacturer of the part. Most auto repair shops won't install parts that you don't buy from them. Why? Because they have no margin in the part and don't want to deal with the headaches in such cases.

If you send your failed sight and slide to TRUGLO, they may install the new sight and cover the cost of shipping back to you. The $4.05 getting the slide and sights to them will be your expense. You may want to ask them to state their policy, as I don't want to misrepresent TRUGLO.

As said in another thread, I would guess that 95% of smiths today have never touched a XD and/or TFO sights. If the sights are installed like a traditional night sight, you are going to have problems.
