XD45 Compact vs PT-745/145
Just picked up the Compact yesterday. It has the same grip length as my PT745 (or PT145).
![]() Here is another comparison, with the PT745 on top. ![]() The Compact was shooting consistently low (6" at 8yds, 3" at 15yds) using POA as POI (i.e. aiming for bullseye, dots lined up). This may be due to the rear sight being somewhat short (IMHO), 4mm top of slide to top of rear sight. I no longer have the stock sights on my XD45 service, but the TFO sights are taller, 6mm, and give me good POA=POI at 8-10yrds. I'm not sure if the stock Compact sights are any shorter than the stock Service sights, but I was dead-on with the stock Service sights (and now with the TFO sights). I used WWB 230gr ammo, and the Compact shot low with either the 10rnd or 13rnd mag, and the Service shot fine, so I don't think it was me Other than the sight issue (I have already ordered TFO sights) the Compact functioned 100% with 120 rnds of FMJ and 20rnds of Gold Dot JHP. I think the Compact compares very well with the PT145 in size, but the XD has the edge in having a better trigger (obviously), longer barrel (better ballistics), and the ability to use the 13rnd mags. I like my Taurus Mil Pro .45s, but I think the Compact will replace them, hopefully the new TFO sights will perform better than the SA stock sights

could you take another pic with both guns side by side but this time from the top in order to see the difference in the slides? any other angles would also be kool too. none of the stores in my area have the XD45 compact yet...so this is a BIG help. thanks...

Here is the best pic comparing the two guns.
![]() And one pic from the rear, but it's a little deceptive due to the curve of the finger extension on the PT-745 mag which makes the gun longer in the front than on the backstrap. PT-745 on left:

Yep, same grip length on the front side, but the Taurus is about 1/4" shorter on the backstrap, which you can see from the pics.

Where, oh where?...
XD9sub,
I see you reside in my neck of the woods. Where did you acquire your compact .45 and (if I may be so rude) what did you give for it? I normally patronize Adventure Outdoors, Ed's Gun & Tackle, and Pannell's and none of these fine folks have even laid eyes on a 45C. Keep us posted on the TFO sights. Thanks.

Hey XD Horse,
You are correct, none of the gun stores I go to have a clue about the Compact (Tucker Guns, and some of the ranges near me). I like to support my local stores, but none of them ever have a newly released gun until about 6 months later. I just can't wait that long for my XDs I got the Compact from a tip on this forum about a guy (SCP Firearms in FL) on the Sig forum who had one for sale (Thanksgiving Blowout Sale, as he called it). Picked it up for $489.99 shipped to my FFL, and no 3% upcharge on the CC either I also got an email back from SA and they wanted me to return the Compact to correct the sight issue, if that is indeed the problem. I declined their kind offer as I'm putting TFO sights on it, and I'm pretty sure that will fix the problem. If not, I'll contact SA again.

Wow! Looks like you got yourself a sweet deal there! I went to the aforementioned Adventure Outdoors this past Saturday and made a request for a special order on the 45C. They are supposed to get back to me in the next day or so with price and availability. Hopefully they will be a bit more prompt with this than they were when they sent my FN back to the factory for a SA hammer drop issue. (A painful story in itself. Think 12 weeks turn around time...) So how did SA know you had a problem with the sights? Just curious. The Horse
