Trigger Overtravel
Hello everyone I figure I would ask since my XD-45 needs to go back to the factory for sight work anyhow is does everyone have ALOT of overtravel in their triggers? Mine seems like its about a mile long.
Thanks |

My XD45 trigger has alot of overtravel also. There seems to be a general consensus that the XD trigger has excessive overtravel.
The good news is that it can be fixed. The bad news is that you have to pay money for it. A guy at the IDPA shoot this weekend had his XD45 trigger done by Springfield and it was nice. So if you're sending it back anyway... .

I have had some issues with the overtravel and I have my theories about it causing the mysterious Low Left stuff, but I have practiced with it like crazy and I have been able to remain consistant with it very well.

I agree that the overtravel can affect your shot, if you are used to a very short, crisp trigger like on a well-tuned 1911. But practice will get you used to it, or you can send it out and have it worked on like a lot of people do.
For a duty weapon, its accurate enough. For competition, I'd rather be shooting my 1911 or get my XD worked on.

I just had my trigger done...
...by Canyon Creek. I specified not making it any lighter since I carry mine on duty. When I picked it up I was a bit disapointed, it didnt feel THAT much different than I remembered the stock trigger (at least for the $$ !). I took it to the range and was pleasantly surprised! My groups were tighter, and my double taps were much closer together (although the short reset takes a bit of getting used to- my first one was WAY off and caught me be surprise!). All in all I can say it was a good call, Id like to try one of his lighter triggers if I ever get another XD to play with! BTW-my groups DID move up a bit and to the right!!! The overtravel must have been playing more of a spoiler than I thought! Anyway, CC did a great job for the $ and I think he installs sights as well. Take care- chad
And just one ? for Novadesigns- what happens if you miss a target in competition? If I miss a target on the street I could kill a by-stander- I'd have to disagree (with my tounge firmly in cheek) with "accurate enough for duty but not competition" |

I just purchased by XD40 and during dry fire practice I've noticed that when the trigger resets (meaning the sound) I have to pull the trigger a bit to take up the slack. I'm guessing this is normal with a stock XD and therefore the reason why you get a trigger job. If this is indeed the case after all the reading I'm pretty sure it will go to Canyon Creek. Since it'll be going to CC what's the general gist on a Tungsten Guide and/or a spring change? Should the spring be lighter or heavier? From what I've read lighter seems to be the way most are going. Thanks for any help and insight. (It won't go too soon I figure I should put a couple hundred rounds through it first that way I can really appreciate the work) Thanks in advance.
