XD45acp service NEWBIE

Just got it Monday, and I love it! Thanks to xdtrapper who is my brother and a member here, I had to go out and buy one. After I fired his service model I made my decision in about two minutes. Very accurate and not a lot of recoil coming from a 45. I went to Green Top Guns in Ashland Virginia and looked at the tatical but the service just fit my hand better. I havent fired a pistol in about 10 years and forgot how much fun it was. My brother and I are very competitve and that's a reason as well. This I'm sure will just make us better shooters. I do have a few questions for the XD professionals here!
1. Grip Pressure ? ( I'm a golfer and this is why I'm confused)
2. Anticipating the recoil?
3. 6 o'clock position I understand but does anyone have an image?
4. What shooting distances should I be practicing if I decide to
shoot in events. 7, 10 ,15, 25 yards?
5. Any small overlooked advice that could be shared?
6. Anyone here from Richmond Va?
7. your thoughts on a rubber grip cover.

Thank you in advance for the help. I'm looking foward to talking with you guys!

First off welcome to the forum.

As to grip pressure you want the weak hand to be about 60% of the grip and strong hand the other 40%. The 60/40 rule.

As to the recoil you just need to get out and shoot and do some dry fire practice drills.

6 o'clock position maybe somebody has the image that was posted a while back and can re-post. Shooting the 6 o'clock position the 3 dots front and rear line up with the front sight at the bottom of the target or #6 position on a clock.

Shooting distances I would refer you to the competition websites for distances and stages. You also will want a shot timer.

As to the rubber grip. I use grip tape but it's a personal preference. The rubber grips are about $8 from the forum sponsers so not much to try it out.

Congrats on a fine purchase. Of al my pistols my XD 45 is my favorite. Only thing I can add to what Broadside said is to shoot it until you get comfortable with it and then shoot it somemore. Lots of issues get cleared up with shooting and practice and getting familure with your weapon. There was a reason why we had to carry our weapons with us everywhere in the Army.
