factory night sights?

Finally going to get my XD 9 it's big brother a XD 45 tactical and I def. want to have night sights on the XD45. My question is, should I get the factory night sights or just wait and have them installed afterwards since there is likeliy to be more choices from an aftermarket armorer. What seem to be the best choice for this gun if any?

Take a look at the Meprolight or Truglo TFO. TopGun Supply has them for a great price. You won't be sorry!!

Are you 100% absolutely sure that Meprolight makes Truglo TFO sights?

Sorry, forgot the "or" as well as "Supply". I'll try to proof my typing prior to hitting the submit button from now on.

Last time I checked the XD45 was not available with factory equipped night sights yet. Maybe later, but some of us have already put after market sights on them. I got the TruGlo TFO's for mine because the are fiber optic sights that also contain tritium so you have the best of both worlds in bright or low lighting conditions.

Just be sure and don't use any of that K-Mart Duckvomit or whatever it's called on your TruGlo tubes; they'll dissolve.

Do these have to be installed by a SA armorer or sent directly to SA for installation, or can I do it myself. I've got some conflicting answers regarding this.

Thanks

Just spoke with a friend of mine who's getting his new XD45 Tactical equipped with TruGlos directly from Davidsons. (Or is it "Davisons"??)

It's not putting on the new sights that can be the problem. It's removing the factory sights . . . SA uses a hydrolic press to install and remove their sights and they can be a bear to remove. The standard sight removel tool will not budge them so don't waste your time buying one just to get these off. You'll need a 3# hammer and steel punch to knock them off and you need them in a padded vise (also a little liquid wrench squirted on them first will help). Or if you have a good gunsmith in your area he can remove them for you. I had mine removed by the store that I bought my XD45 from and they only charged me $10.00 and they also put the TFO's on. But now I can remove them quite easily. If you're handy with tools and willing to do it yourself . . . go for it. Just remember to tap the new sights in place lightly don't overpower.

But if you're hesitant then use a gunsmith, it shouldn't cost much and probably less then shipping them back to SA for installation. There are some members here who have done it themselves who can add good advise on the how to's.

Good luck finding one with factory night sights. If you do, go for it! Otherwise, I'm a fan of the XS sights and the Heine Straight Eights. Check em out.
