XD 45 and reloads

Help - have run 500 rounds through my new XD 45. Tried using reloads
at 100 round and about 2 out 5 stove piped. Same after 200
rounds. Have not tried reloads again. Is there a problem firing
reloads through the XD?
Thanks am new to the XD Talk.

Others who are more experienced with reloading should be along shortly, but I think stovepipes (especially with reloads) are usually an indication that the rounds are undercharged (not enough powder), so the slide is short-cycling.

Either that or something is messed up with the cartridge lip/extractor mating, and it's having a hard time yanking the spent case. Have you checked your extractor to see if it's dirty or damaged?

Typically reloads are fine to shoot through the XD; most issues arise when the incorrect amount of powder is used.

Now somebody else chime in.

I re-load for my XD45. After trying many different loads I have found that 230 grain FMJ round nose bullets work the best for me. My favorite target load uses the 230/FMJ over 5.0 grains of Bullseye, with a COL of 1.260 & a taper crimp of .002 to .0025. If I use the XD45 for USPCA or that type of competition, I like 5.3 grains of Bullseye with everything else being the same. The main thing is to put enough powder in to work the action & be sure not to exceed the 1.260 COL by more than .003. W231 works well, as does Unique. I am working on some loads useing these powders, but haven't found the best combination yet.You can make a tighter crimp. I have tried up to .0045 but I like to keep it around .0025.

Reloads

+1 I use only reloads in my XD-45 and with a stock spring usually that means 5.0-5.5 gr. of whatever powder. I replaced the spring in my XD-40 to a 16# spring and I use 4.4 gr. of powder with the weaker spring. you just have to use enough powder to completely cycle the slide. I use a Bear Creek Moly SWC, 200gr. with 5.4 gr. of Hp 38, 1.230 OAL. One way to get a little more poop is to run a shorter OAL, if it will feed.

I reload my own for my XD45. 230gr RN w/5.6grs of W231. The XD runs them through as fast as you can keep the mags loaded! I've run well over 1k rounds through my XD using reloads and I can't recall a single FTF or FTE.

Lotsa reloads

That's about all I've been feeding my XD-45, with a variety of powders (always 230gr FMJ, though). No probs at all.

I have decided to use SWC's in the revolvers & JHP's & FMJ's in my semi-auto's. The RN FMJ's work better by far in my 1911's & my XD45.

Another vote for the 230 gr FMJ bullet.I use it with 5.3 grs. of HP38 at around 800fps.Feeds flawlessly.Nothing but smiles after ripping off 13 rds of 45acp without a hicup.
