First Impressions: XD .45 Service
Greetings all.
I picked up a .45 XD Service Model about two weeks back, and this morning I was finally able to schedule a range trip to wring it out. I took along 100 rounds of factory WW hardball and about 50 rounds of my handloads: a combination of swaged ball, cast and plated SWC, all loaded over 5.6 grains of WW 231. With the first full magazine of factory ball, I experienced one FTF and there were no repetitions. I chalk this up to newness. Otherwise, the pistol digested all of my ammunition and handloads without fail. Corresponding to other members' posts, I found my XD displayed a decided affinity for SWCs. From a 25-yard rest, they produced very tight, often cloverleaf groups. I have many years of experience with 1911s and revolvers in all calibers. That being said, I found this pistol to be remarkably accurate right out of the box. The trigger, though having a slight bit of take up, as would be expected, is perfectly acceptable, and I could tell it was getting better by the end of this initial range session. I recommend this firearm without the slightest reservation. It is a whole lot of fun. |

Glad to hear your XD likes SWC, it's the only thing mine won't digest without problem.
