i was looking at getting a 45 sometime in the future i dont want a sub because my hand are too big to fit on any of the sub frames so far, so i think if i was going to buy a .45 it would be this one. i wish i owned a machine shop though i would buy one of these and chop it down an inch just to see what people thought of it.

I love my regular XD45, but I'd love it more if it was the same size as my Glock 19. This is exactly what I've been looking for! I had looked for a while for a custom shop to chop mine, and do a chop on a couple of mags to go with it, but forget that now!
For me, the problem carrying strong side IWB is the grip length, never the barrel length(as long as it has a reasonable length like 3-5"). But I don't like 2-finger grips on sub-compacts. This looks perfect. Tex78 Last edited by Tex78; 11-13-2006 at 05:50 PM. |

I just bought the xd45 compact and have ran 300 rounds of 230 grain +p and I love it. I was hoping that the xd45 would be chopped down at the grip that's why I never bought one until now. I traded my glock 23 that I have been carrying for 5 years with no regrets so far. Next step is to get Truglo TFO sights.

The XD45 compact may be the same size as Glock, and H&K, compacts. However I'm talking about sub-compacts i.e. carry concealed. Springfield didn't do it here. Springfield did an excellent job with the 9MM, and 40 sub-compact. They need to do the same in 45, and maybe they plan to, who knows. I would like to see Springfield come out with a gun the size and number of rounds of the Taurus PT145. The XD series has the quality, and I trust them. I just want them to do in 45, what they did in 9 and 40.

Seriously though, I would be interested in knowing where you got yours; I haven't been able to locate a distributer with any (hell, most of them don't even know there is such a thing as a Xd 45 compact Also, pics would be nice. Marty, don't worry man, I'm sure SA has a sub compact in the works.

Does anyone know the height difference in the 45 compact and the 40 service?

Blame it on me.
When the XD45 first came out, I emailed SA and told them the grip was too long for that 4 inch bbl, and asked them to just chop the grip on the compact and leave the 4 inch bbl/slide as is. Thank you very much SA! Picked one up TUE and I am very happy with it. Magtech and Independence 230 FMJ, Speer and Rem 185/230 JHPs through it w no problems. The 13 mag w extension feels fine, works fine. Traded in two (2) service models for it too BTW! Would have got two compacts but they only had one... not sure if I want another 4C or a 5C when others show up... have no interest at all in a 3SC 45. Don't like lightweight snubby 357 mags either; ya can make some guns too small for me. This is a compact, not a sub-compact. It is virtually the same size as a G30/38, USP45c, SIG P245. I've had all of those and I like this better. I like this better than the G19/23/32, P228/229, P2000; had all of them too. The option of using the 13 round mags is icing on a very tasty cake. The "2 guns in 1" angle works very well for me; I like the idea a lot. Would like to see that with the 9/40/357s too. Then, when the 3 SC 45 comes out, SA would have 3 slides and 3 frames for everything!

Other than that they are great sights. Very easy to pick up under any conditions. Of course, the fact that I do most of my target shooting at 25 yards affects impact points on the target. To most shooters who shoot at 10 yards or less this problem is not as noticable. |

I came within a swipe of the credit card of buying a full size 4" about three weeks ago, but something told me I needed to do a bit more research before I dropped the dime. (At the time I was actually considering a Glock 30 because I didn't like how long the grip was on the full size XD45.) Imagine my delight when I learned of the compact while perusing the forum a few days back. Like you, I really appreciate the 2-in-1 design. Now, if I could just find one of the things...
