Hell, they won't even sell us parts, I doubt they'll sell us lowers.

Just looked at the web page. The regular size grip fits my hand like a glove. If I am going to a smaller grip it better be with a shorter barrel than the 4.06"(or whatever) offering. I will wait for the true subcompact.

I'm glad that I waited. I think that instead of carrying a Serrvice 9mm she'll be rockin' ACP power. Great thinking on Springfields part, that got my buisness. I've already contacted my shop about them, Nov 6 is when the Distribution is.

What SA did with this release was very easy, and smart, to due from the production point of view. No doubt there are a lot of people who are dissapointed it was not a 3" released this week, but what SA was able to do was expand their offerings and give shooters more choices without having to change/re-design barrels, guid rods & springs, etc... Look at the differences between the .40 Service and the .40 Subs (I'm not sure about the 9mms because I do not own one in the XD line). I believe the NEXT step from these releases would be the 3".

As for these new releases competing with the Service that is already offered, the answer is yes and no. I bought a .40 Service with the intent of chopping the grip, which aids in concelment for CCW but is a PITA if you are trying to "compete" with the same gun (the mags do not drop free when I shoot my subbie with the extended mag and grip sleeve due to the grip sleeve hanging/catching on the palm of my hand). For CCW it's great to be able to conceal the shorter mag and have an extended mag available for a reload if it's needed. I think the market will support all the offerings, and from the shooter's standpoint, it's just going to depend on what they intend to do with the gun as to which one they opt to buy.

Kudos to SA for their decision and shame on the Poo Pooers out there that are being impatient. SA only released the ACP LESS than a year ago.
+1 I have to agree, I have a .45 service and I am happy. The frame, as alot of people state, is alot easier to hide then the grip, which is my experience as well. I personally would prefer this over a 3" since I get to preserve the velocity characteristics as well as the accuracy. Just IMO.

Talking Wow

It's amazing how much this gun has polarized eveyone. I haven't held one in my hands yet but I'm pretty excited about it. I've always been a fan of .45 and just sold my XD40SC. I'll be picking up one of these ASAP.

I'm not real excited.

Dremel Engineering by Springfield's R&D dept....Yawn...

They'll probably sell lots of them. That's good in a way. I like my XD45 Service and Tactical. I'll pass on the XD45 CCO concept.

If I need a package that's easier to carry. I'll get out my LW Commander.

Now if Springfield would just sell lowers only???

This is my opinion. Your opinion may vary.

I'm leaning in that direction too if they don't come out with a SUB-compact.

I have to admit that if I lived in a commie state, I would SO want one of these. It's a real nice option for our brothers behind enemy lines.

Otherwise... meh. I don't really see what use I personally can get out of it. I want an XD45 that's about 3/4 the size of an XD9 Service is what I want to see. I find the times I need a smaller grip, I want a shorter barrel too.

If they make this same gun with a 3.1"-3.5" pipe next year, I'll be a happy camper.

I'm not even so sure I'd get this if I didn't already have a service. While the grip sleeves on my XD9SC work well enough, I can feel that the grip isn't really "solid", plus a regular XD magazine for the .45 costs like $25. What's the sleeved version going to cost, like $40? I don't want $40 mags with a funny feeling grip. I want $25 mags with a nicer feeling grip because I don't see myself carrying this with the 10 rounder in it.

I'm willing to put up with this on the XD9SC because with the flush magazine in it, it is noticeably smaller than the service model. This thing, not so much.

I don't think I'm too far off there either, a regular full capacity XD9 magazine is like $20 and the sleeved version for use with the XD9SC is the same darn thing with a plastic sleeve on it for $35.

It's nice they did this and everything, but it's just not something this consumer wants.

It sounds as though you may be confused with your terminology. The frame IS THE GRIP, the 'upper' as some people like to call it IS THE SLIDE which contains the barrel, etc.
