recoil spring size on the xd45
I ordered a 14 # recoil spring for the xd 45 tactical from WC Wolff. (I don't have the gun yet, BUT do have the xd 40 tactical, and I thought? they would be the same length and o.d.) SO I assumumed they would be the same/interchange. What I really wanted was the reduced hammer/stricker spring that is SUPPOSED to come with it. "as advertized" by them on their web site. With the invoice comes a recoil spring that's HUGE and NO reduced power hammer/stricker spring....says "check back later". This spring is so big I don't think it will stay on the guide rod...it's 81/4 " long x 1/2" Id) Is the guide rod o.d. that much larger on the xd 45???( wolff # 53014). I also ordered 3 extra hammer/stricker reduced power springs (which they don't have???) So, the question is, are the xd40 tactical recoil springs and the xd 45 tactical springs the same od and length????

Don't know about the 40 but the stock recoil spring on my XD45 TAC is 7 1/4" long.

The .40 Tactical used a 8mm (nominal) diameter rod, and the .45ACP Tactical uses a 10mm (nominal) diameter rod, or about .312" vs .392" for my rods. The spring overall length is not real important, what is important is that it has enough force when installed to cock the striker, and then when compressed has the rated force.
The ODs would be quite different. I have not checked out the Wolff spring for the XD45, can you get a more accurate ID? I am wondering if it fits on the factory rod or only on the Wolff one. Last edited by Don; 10-28-2006 at 11:40 AM. |

xd 45 spring
Yes, I measured it today.... It's.410 i.d. & 8 1/2 " long..I didn't see that they are offering anything for the 40 Tactical..... I've tried a 1911 spring and saw as you meantioned, a 14# Colt spring is not long enough to give 100% lockup all the time. SO, I guess it's waiting time? Of course the "reduced power" Colt firing pin is also too small. Well, since I have the recoil spring, I should get the xd 45.... Some how that makes since,(cents) too me??? (I also already bought 3 xd 45 mags). I think I must be going to buy one??? My favorite bullet in the 45 is the 180/200 grn. semi-wad cutter... I see people are having some issues with these in the xd45?, a little feed ramp work is probably in order? MikeNM

Sweet! At 0.410" it should be perfect on my stainless clone rod (rubbing my hands together while sporting an evil smile) and on the factory rod.
I have a ton (well, 26.4 lbs at least) of SWC that needs to get loaded up for my other .45s. I should try to see how it feeds in my XD45 and if not figure out a plan to fix it. But, today I sized about 300 Hornady Match brass for my new .308, and may stay focused on that for a while. Too many things I want to do (hampered by things I need to do). Anyway, thanks for the info! |
