Where are you heading in Texas?

I am in San Antonio, and at a range called the Bullethole the day before yesterday. The ground was covered in brass, and I added to the collection (I don't reload). I would say my XD-45 Service tossed it a couple of feet (2-4) away.

I have also seen bags of brass for sale at the monthly gun show here in town. Might be worth checking out...

Cheers! M2

Thanks, All

'Preciate the prompt responses.

Since most of my previous firing has been bolt-action rifles or single-shot Thompson-Contenders -- none of which eat up rounds -- it's been easy to deal with monitoring case life for reloading. I can see where that could change with an auto pisto.

The comments about marking cases are helpful.

I'm surprised so many responses indicated lots of shooting without reloading. Have the economics changed so much in the past 20 years while I've been away from shooting? I'd still enjoy the reloading activity and the chance to tune loads to a specific gun (yeah, using the .45 ACP offhand may make 'tuning' an ephemeral thing, better to work on technique).

M2, we're going to move near Austin to be closer to our kids/grandson.

Again, all, thank you for your input.

Welcome to Austin!

Red's has a nice range up in Pflugerville that's worth checking out.

The range I go to has sidebars on the lanes, my brass bounces of it to the front an rear of myself and rolls around, they do not keep a broom handy, so my brass falls in with everyone elses. Have to get on the ground and look. The lanes I have shot in, have multitudes of different calibers. Fun Fun Fun.

Outdoor ranges usually have enough room between shooters to lay out a mat.

marking brass

I don't mark my brass, usually when I shoot I'm the only one on the rage. even if I'm not then I'm the lone 45ACP shooter. I don't track how many times I have fired it either. I just use it until I see signs of failure. I have some old Military brass I have loaded so many times the head stamp is almost gone. it still works. Then again I'm more of a combat acrion shooter than a bullseye guy. Extreme accuracy is not my thing.

Another Alternative

If you don't want to bother chasing spent cases get one of these:

http://www.cm-machine.com/item.jhtml...007&PRID=97882

Another company makes one that stands on the floor:

http://www.chiefsbrasscatcher.com/chiefshome.html

They're a bit pricey but very effective. And you never have to worry about which brass is yours.
