I took my XD45 Service and my XD45 Tactical to the range a week ago to test accuracy with different factory loads.I usually shoot Double Tap ammo because of its higher velocity(1010fps,230gr HP) and accuracy. All my other 45 autos (Kimber,Sig 220)love it. I have to say I was not happy with the performance in the XD's. 3"-4" 10 shot groups at 25yds. The same with hardball. Then I tried Federal Personal Defence 230gr HP. My groups tightened up to 2"-2.25" at 25yds.I was using a 2" Orange Peel Bull at 25yds and only a few cut the outside edge, the rest were in the black. What a difference ammo can make.I guess I know what ammo I will be carrying fron now on.
Anyone else have this experience with Federal ammo? |

As much as I love my XD, it's not as accurate as my Sig 220. It may have something to do with balance, because most of the weight on an XD is in the hi cap magazine. The 220 has the weight more evenly distributed.

So glad that others are getting good results from their XD Tacticals as well. Stopped by one of the Wally Marts here in town (we have 3) and they were out of .45 ACP WWB, they did however have about 15 boxes (100 rounds) of .40 Smith. Will hit up another one tomorrow before going to the range to see if they've got any WWB so I can finish the comparison.
Funny thing is, I didn't really care for the way my Tactical handled with the Fiocchi ammo, but it still got good accuracy. Personal quirk maybe? Anyway, I still don't have a laptop and I'm about to go back out on that job in New Orleans (got home yesterday and leave again Monday morning), so if I don't get some results for you guys tomorrow, then it may be another 2 weeks before I can give some updates. And I'm still trying to convince my wife that I "need" a M4 in 6.8SPC. |

Almost forgot to add...I'm also trying to convince her to let me send it off to Springer for a trigger job and some other goodies. Scott is more likely to get my business than I am on getting the M4.

OK guys, I went back to the range today with some WWB.
Same as before, 20 yards, front rested, standing leaning on the lane wall for support. I had to do it twice because I thought "No way!" because it felt better than the other ammo I shot, though it turns out the performance was very similar. WWB 230gr FMJ (first group) Best 5 - 1.75in (3 making one ragged horizontal row) All 10 - 4.25in WWB 230gr FMJ (second group) Best 5 - 2.125in (2 sets of 2 making ragged one holes) All 10 - 3.75in Just for kicks... Federal 230 JHP HydraShok Best 5 - 2.0in All 10 - 4.25in Forgot to add, I'm now over the 1000 round mark with the pistol without a single FTF, FTE, or problem.
