OK, tested a couple of different types of ammo today to see if my Tactical liked anything else from the factory better.

Unless otherwise noted, all are at 20 yards, front on a rest, standing (braced against the side of the lane)...

CCI Brass 230gr FMJ
Best 5 : 1.75in (4 of them were actually in 1in, 2 rounds passing nearly through the same hole)
All 10 : 4.25in

CCI Brass 230gr FMJ (10 yards, 2 hand freestyle, no rest)
Best 5 : 1.75in
All 10 : 3.25in

Fiocchi 230gr FMJ
Best 5 : 1.5in
All 10 : 3.75in

Remington UMC 230gr JHP
Best 5 : 1.5in
All 10 : 3.5in

Remington UMC 230gr JHP (25 yards)
Best 5 : 2.25in
All 10 : 6.5in (my fault, not the ammo, taking out my flyer it's actually 4.5in)

And just for giggles, I shot my wife's XD .40 Service at 20 yards, same way as my Tactical. So here's how the .40 with a 4in barrel panned out...

WWB 165gr FMJ
Best 5 : 1.75in (best 3 were just inside an inch, 2 nearly passing through the same hole)
All 10 : 4.25in

When Wally World gets some more .45 ACP WWB ammo in, I'll shoot at 20 yards in the same fashion to get a valid comparison. It seems some guy with a new XD .45 Tactical has bought out all of their WWB ammo recently.

I've shot/owned different XD's. I've found my calling with the 45ACP in terms of accuracy, and comfortable CCW.

The 40 cal would be my next choice.

My 45 Tac will shoot 3" @25yd with my 230gr handloads and under 4" with every load I've tried in it. I call that good for a carry gun.

If a pistol will put them all on a paper plate at 25 that's adequate for a defensive sidearm.

I was at my neighbors police gun range last week and his partner fired my XD45 for the 1st time. Now I consider myself a novice and all but what this guy did was the most impressive shooting I've ever seen and this was the 1st time he picked up this pistol. He put 6 shots within a 4" circle from 25 yards away. I was like when he brought the target back. I may have converted a Sig user to the Springfield - he loved the gun. He also is that station's main pistol guy for competitions - even so - that was impressive to me. I'm happy if I hit the target from 25 yards.

So to answer your question - YES - they are accurate!

I bought the XD 45 Tactical. Took it for a round of shooting and I am impressed with the accuracy. for me the 45 Tact is not too large for carry purposes.

Great Shootin'. Yes, the trigger does smooth out after break in. Mine has gotten better.

Here is a target from Monday. This was the 3 trip to the range with my XD and I now have 449rds through it. This target is the best I have done so far. This is from 15yds and one mag of 13rds. I found that when I don't rush through a mag I can shoot pretty well with it. I would still like to get a trigger job though.
