My experience and thoughts of the XD45
Ok, so here is a little background. I am a Narcotics Agent and a Tac Team Leader and have been in Law Enforcements for 10 years now. I am a gun nut and always have been since I was a child. I have carried several different types of firearms for service use over the years even thought I will always prefer my UMP45 or 12 guage when possible. Ive carried Glocks, Sigs and Kimbers and always preferred the Sig P220R and still have a couple of them. The Glocks were nice but I didnt care for the grip angle and they are not the best, safety wise, for undercover work and the .45, which is all that we carry, are just to big. The Kimbers are great but are just to high maintance to keep running properly. Prior to this testing I pretty much carried the P220R.
I recently aquired a couple XD45acps and have been playing around with them a little recently. I have been testing the XD45 and I have to say I am very pleased. Reliability is very impressive. I have tortured one through water, go it muddy and shot it every which way and have been very please. Accuracy is a little short of the Kimbers and even the Sig but I think that has alot to do with getting use to the trigger. Ive dumped several hundred rounds the past few months and have tried to make malfunctions but they have stood up to the test. I have always been more of a traditionalist and a big 1911 fan but I have just got sick and tired of buy $1000+ guns and have to work so damn hard to keep them running right. The last Warrior had to go back to Kimber 2 times before it would run more then 20 rounds without a malfunction. I have come to the conclusion that the XD45 is a great weapon for my type of use. It is nice looking, shots great and most importantly, will always go BANG!!! I have now put them into action for duty use and am in the process of switching my guys to them as well. I just sent one of the XD45's off to Canyon Creek for a trigger job and I can't wait to get it back and give it a try. With what Ive heard of Canyon Creek, I think it will be right up there with my smoothest Kimber on its best day and definately more reliable. My opinion is that the XD is the best .45 under $450 available, bar none. Any law enforcement officer would be well suited with the Springfield Armory XD45acp. I really hope they will come out with the SC model as that will be perfect for UC work. Thats just my 2 cents.

I am glad you have had great luck with it.
I love mine, but my experience is strictly a couch commando/3-gun/CCW runner. Best of luck with the mods.

I think you will find that the Canyon Creek (CC) trigger is probably the single best after-market enhancement you can have done to your weapon. I have CC 4# carry triggers on both my XD40 and XD45 and the difference is nothing short of amazing. A great weapon is now a greater weapon. Watch your a-- out there and thanks (I too am a humble civil servant).

I don't have anywhere near as much experience as you but I've also recently moved from a kimber classic in stainless (70 series) to an XD45ACP for pretty much the same reasons, although I leave it up to you and others to do the torture testing

I found the same aspect of my XD 45 ACP service attractive and a good reason why it's become my wife Bedside Home defense weapon. I have a small collection of 1911 (is down to 13, but at one time over 40). It took some time for me to get use to the trgger as did the glock (G34). I to love my Sig (210), but both my Wife and My Oldest daughter love the XD's.
My Oldest will start shooting IPSC next week with a XD 9 TAC....I too spoke with Rich, and expect to send both XD's to him, later this month....THE XD 9 is getting some Dawson's, the XD 45ACP Service has some TFO's. But I still carry a 1911 (Kimber Tactical Pro II and Wilson Combat CQB) for CCW.
