Shooting a little low

I brought my XD45 to the range for the first time today, and started very close in - 15 and 20 ft.
If seems I'm shooting low pretty consistently - right at 6:00.

I tried the POI sighting and 6 o'clock sights, but it still seems to do the same thing. I'm sure it's me, but I couldn't figure out what's going on.

Any thoughts?

In any rate, I still shoot much better with this than the S&W Sigma .40 I traded.

Thanks,

Rick

Shooting low most of the time has to do with anticipating recoil or an improper grip. this doesn't mean that's what's happening, but we could probably be more helpful, if you post a video. At 5-7 yards you should be getting 1" groups.

what are the spreads and what ammo are you shooting?

Btw: Welcome Aboard and congratulations on your new purchase.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago when I purchased my xd 45.
I honestly thought it was the gun, but after some practice , my groups started to hit center. I noticed that with this gun, you really have to go back to the basics of handgun shooting, esp. letting the recoil "surprise" you. I was trying too hard to keep a firm grip on the weapon, and as a result, I was flinching down to the left. This was my own personal experience it may help. FS

This is common with a stock XD trigger and a new XD shooter. Because the pull is so long, you start dipping the gun, looking over the sights. It's for this reason I am a big fan of XD trigger jobs.

Try this, get the gun on target and pull the trigger very slow until it fires. I bet the hit is dead nutz on. Repeat over and over again, getting reducing your splits over time. It will take some practice, but you will get there.

i had this exact same problem when I first started shooting my xd .45. aside from flinching and the grip issues that have already been mentioned, there is something else that really improved my groups. Initially I was squeezing the trigger with the crease in my trigger finger (this was just how i naturally shot the gun initially). I switched to using the pad or tip of my finger and wow! what a difference. I have read lots of people having success shooting both ways, I guess you just need to try both like i did.

Ditto....same issue when I first started putting rounds on target. I bought a pistol rest from pistolgear and it helped a lot on my developing better trigger control. Now I am pretty consistent with my placement.
