shipping
You must declare that it is a handgun and it is unloaded and there is no ammunition with it. What I did was take my XD in packed in it's original SA black case and put that in a medium fedex box on site. Filled out the paperwork and paid my money. I was then out the door. At last check my XD had left the building. It closer to 40 mi for me. Ah, the blessings of rural living.
In case the "Help" at the hub is not aware there are restrictions on how it can be shipped. for FEDEX it must go "Fedex Priority Overnight". UPS is somethng similar you will need to look it up. Cool. There is a hub very close to us (within 5 mins) of each of the major shippers. Nice living next to a commercial district. So just bring it in in the case and claim it eh?

A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm.
[18 U.S.C. 922(a)(2)(A), 922(a) (3), 922(a)(5) and 922(e), 27 CFR 478.31 and 478.30] Just a tip, FedEx and UPS allow you to print your own shipping labels and the shipping box are free AND they generally have drop boxes all over. Just follow their rules for shipping. The agents here are educated, but not so understanding about the rules in some areas. |

You might want to bring a letterhead (printout of Springer webpage) because they might ask to prove it's going to a gunsmith with an FFL.
