Conceal carry holster for a lean guy
I know this is a common question but I have a rather specific issue I'm a tall and lean guy (6'1" 140, at most) and I'm looking for the best concealed carry for SA 45 acp 4". Cover garments aren't a problem but I'm looking for the least printing possible and spare mags would be nice. The small of the back or shoulder seems the best bet from what I understand but I'm a noob haven't cc carried yet with a cpl in hand though. Since I'm so lean if I go shoulder I would assume vertical would be the best chance for concealment? Cost is not an issue. So let the suggestions fly, much thanks in advance for links and suggestions.

Combat Carry has a section of different holsters and there maybe someone that could help with a holster suggestion also.
As far as magazine pouches, I have a knife pouch that I can put on my belt that goes horizontal to the belt, it blends in well that way. Magils has a horizonal mag pouch that would work By the way welcome to the site

I really like my crossbreed. It is very concealable and comfortable. If you are willing to wait a while, he makes them all basically by hand, and without a custom made price.

I remember when I was that skinny. That was 10 years ago, though. Your stature will also determine what you can hide with ease.
Some skinny folks have a sway in their back that will hang a shirt in such a way that you could hide a tank on their 4-5 o'clock. Some, however don't have that sway and have problems hiding anything. The width of your shoulders can have the same effect as the swayed back and 2-4 o'clock is an option, maybe even OWB. Perhaps a picture could help make a more educated decision.

My brother is about the same build 6' 3" and about 150 and he can't conceal my sub at all during summer months... he is just too lanky. On the other hand i am 5' 10" 195 and can conceal just about anything since my shoulders are much wider than my hips the shirt just hangs and covers it... Anyways surprisingly for my bro the easiest way for him to conceal is in a cheapo uncle mikes neoprene? iwb... not the best quality but it rides much lower than most iwb's. In the winter though he has no problem since a sweatshirt or hoody just hangs off of him he could hide a tank. I guess you are just going to have to try lots of trial and error since we are all built differently and we each have different expectations of what is comfortable and what is not. Hope that was somewhat of a help.

I'm not quite as skinny as you are, but I find that the IWB holsters from Comp-Tac carried around the kidney area are the best bet. I'm 6'1" and 190. I carried a 4" with the full grip for a long time like this. However, I cut my grip down and found it to be a great help in printing. You have a .45, though, so that ain't an option. I'd try that, if I were you. On the other hand, my buddy carries his HK in one of those Uncle Mike's neoprene IWBs that speedracer211 is talkin about. He's my height and weighs about 160. That seems to work well for him. I'd say that'd be a way to go at first, because they're really cheep and you can find out if those IWB holsters will work for you.

I am 6'2" and 190lbs, not quite as thin as you but thin enough to make concealed carry a challenge!
I also use one of the Uncle Mike's neoprene IWB holsters (size 15) and to help offset the printing I usually wear dark (mainly black) t-shirts. My wife says the gun is not noticible, and I have bought another one (size 5) to try with my SA 1911 GI. It seems to fit a little better as the 1911 is skinnier than the XD, but it also holds about half the ammo. I end up carrying the XD all the time. Cheers! M2

Check out a Rafter's Gun Leather IWB holster. It may work for ya.

I buy all my holsters from Sportsman's Warehouse, they even let me "borrow" a 1911 for a minute to see if the size 5 Uncle Mike's was the one I needed.
As for shoulder holsters, I have one from Sarajevo (when I carred a Beretta 9mm) that my 1911 fits into, but I wouldn't wear it even under a jacket as I don't like the fact that the gun points directly behind me versus downward as with my IWBs. We were eating dinner a few weeks ago and the city police helicopter crew came in, and one of the pilots was wearing a shoulder holster. His gun was pointing at a group of people sitting directly behind him, something I wasn't comfortable with. Rule #1 of handguns is treat every gun as if it is loaded and Rule #2 is never to point your gun at anything you don't intend to kill. I know he wasn't intentionally pointing his weapon at them, but it was. What makes it worse is that this was an open carry situation, and it was plainly obvious which direction the weapon was pointing. Not an ideal situation in my book. Plus my 6-yr-old sits behind me in our minivan, do you think I want my gun to be pointing at him? Hell no! Even if the chance of an AD is slim, there is a chance and I'd rather shoot my own ass off than accidentally shot someone else! Cheers! M2
