I can see where somone might like to have a lanyard on their pistol. If you work from aircraft or boats in particular. However, I would never use one.

For military and police operations, search and rescue, trotting in the woods etc a leash makes complete sense. Now that all the mall ninjas and secret squirels have gotten their opinions out. Can anyone answer the question?
Gem-Tech makes the cats ass of leashes btw and its NSN'd. gsh341, leashes are standard issue. You cannot imagine what a Court Martial is like if you loose your sidearm. Your a SGT? I would strongly advise you to use it and make your troops do as well. |

leash!!!
I will definatly concure with the statements concerning the ned for one for military and LEo purposes. I use one on my issued SIG 228. I actualy don't know of anyone in my unit that doesn't use one. When we are knee deep in grenade pins and something fouls your holster it is always good to have it attached to your body(by the way don't attach your leash to your holster I have seen bad things happen when doing that)
I will say though that there is absolutly(my 2 cents) no use for one when CCW. The whole purpose is Concealed carry. If you have a leash/lanyard hanging down from under your shirt then it draws attention there. You might not be able to see your weapon but it will draw unwanted attention to where you have it concealed. Just make sure you purchase a holster you are confertable with and ensure it is tightened(if adjustable)up enough to prevent it from coming out during daily routine activites. The funny thing is I use on everytime I take my SIG 228 out but I have never even thought about one for my CCW XD. mkes me think It was never needed and never will be. Just my 2 cents worth

I agree for a CCW they should be avoided.
If a XD Smith/armorer would pipe in here this would be great. We just need to know if it is possible to drill a small hole and then use a small grommet in the hole so the leash does not get fraid, another option would be to have a pin installed either way If this is a service one of the XD guru's would preform I will send off a couple to have it done. |

My thinking for a lanyard would be some kind of a plug that would fit into the empty space behind the mag and be secured with a roll pin or maybe JB weld

fill the back strap hole with jb weld then drill it after it hardens then put in an eye screw and there you go that way you dont have to drill into the frome and the lanyard wouldnt get in the way of your grip
