I am considering purchasing a new XD. I was wondering if all of the 45acp XD's were treated with the melonite finish I know that I have read that the original XD -9mm did not have this finish. Are all XD 45acp models finished in Melonite???

In a discussion I had with Springfield Customer Service this week I asked them to run all the serial numbers on my XD's - an XD40SC, an XD45 Service and an XD45 Tactical.

My XD45 Service was manufactured in mid-January 2006, the Tactical in July '06 - they are both Melonite finish. SA's official position is that ALL XD's in 45ACP are Melonite.

As covered in many other threads, pre-Melonite pistols are not inferior, they just have a different finish. As SA Customer Service puts it "If there's a problem with any XD pistol, it's got Springfield's Lifetime Warranty. Send it in and we'll fix it."

I emailed SA yeaterday and asked them about my XD-40 I purchased in September. Here is their reply:

The XD pistol in question, US26xxx, has a manufacture date of 7-24-06. So it will have the melonite finish. Let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.
