Houge Grip Covers Handle Safety

I ordred the grip and it covers the handle safety is this necessary a bad thing. To me it just turns my XD to a Glock.
I don't carry in a chamber, I practice the Israeli sling shot draw.
I saw how some of the members have cut out the section.

I appreciate your experiences with this grip.

You draw, rack the slide and shoot. A bit much to do under preasure though, but to each his own.

Have you timed yourself from draw, rack to bang? Remember less then 3 seconds for BG to cover 21 feet. You need to be able to draw, shoot and move left / right. Not sure why anyone would carry a gun w/o round in chamber. XD's are very safe to carry between grip and trigger safeties only time they go bang is when you want it to.

Rule #1 All guns are always loaded. My advice load it and carry with one in chamber.

I use Grip Tape for the grip $10 at Homedepot or Lowes.

I agree it is a bit too much to do under pressure, but I practice everyday. it is the same action as the sling shot.
draw the gun out of the holster, raise the gun, as the gun moves forward on the straight line it is cocked and fired once it has reached the full arm extension.
it's not the easiest but it is safer than carrying with one in the chamber.
This is my theory
I beleive if I am going to a place where I expect in the least that I ,might encounter a hostile situation then I'll cock the gun.

back to the grip with the grip safety bypassed you still have the trigger safety.

it adds about 1 to 2 seconds.
I think the best thingto do in close "21" feet. this is if youy can is to move away and try again.

unless the other person has a gun also, but if they are running at you I'll run and once in a safer distance take care of business. There are allot of scenarios that I would not run.

As for me, whenever I carry, the clip is loaded but nothing in the chamber. It may be a different case if I were heading into Behruit or similar volatile environment, but heck, up here in Northern Minnesota an immediate threat is certainly less probable and the chance of that BG running at me full tilt and covering 21 feet in less than 3 seconds is pretty unlikely. I feel comfortable carrying as such but I will also agree it's probably not for everyone in different scenarios. As for the Hogue grip mod I put one on my XD also but took an EXACTO knife and cut a very small vertical rectangle piece out of the back of the rubber grip. Anytime a person intentionally disables a weapon's intended safety device you are doing nothing but flirting with trouble and possible legal ramifications if the weapon is ever used to inflict bodily harm. A word to the wise, (re)enable that grip safety.

Just curious, which Houge Grip is everyone putting on their XD-45's?

I've seen them, and would like to try them; but I am not sure which one fits. Also, I'd mod it to allow the grip safety to operate as designed...but I also carry one in the pipe. Every micro-second counts...

Cheers! M2
