Just cut off the top of it... I think about 3/4 of an inch or so.
I don't have any good pictures of it with me, in this one you can see it on the far right in my range bag.

![]() ![]() Just take a razor blade and trim it off. Start at front and go straight back at the angle to clear it.

Sling Shot???
Sorry, I had to comment on this one....
Suspect with a gun - The average gun fight occurs at a distance of 0 to 7 feet, lasts an average of 5 seconds, with an average of 2 1/2 rounds fired. Suspect with a knife - The 21 foot rule, is the closest distance shown to be resonably safe, by FBI studies, when engaging a suspect armed with a knife. The average suspect can close that gap in less than three seconds, a more determined suspect in about 1 1/2 seconds. The average responce time, for an average person, to such a threat is between 1/2 to 1 second. The point I'm getting at is, when you are in a fight for your life, every millisecond counts. As far as I am concerned the only safe way to treat a gun, would be to act as if it where loaded (one in the chamber) at all times, and the only safe way to carry a gun, is with it loaded (one in the chamber) at all times. If I wanted a sling shot then that is what I would carry, not an XD 40. Just my opinion.... |

I think you should watch this and see why having one in the chamber is the only way to even have a prayer of a chance at defending against a knife.

In as much as I believe it is better to have a round chambered, I don't completely agree with that video (is it Austrian or German?). For one, the polizei officer is at a completely unready position, whereas in any threat situation they would most likely have their weapon at least drawn from the holster if not already pointed at the suspect. Secondly, the polizei officer makes no effort to avoid the attack, they just draw their weapon. I would expect anyone to not only draw, but to also attempt to get away from the attacker.
The video makes a great point, any surprise attack is hard to defend, anyone that close to you will be able to attack you without you being able to completely defend it. And as such, I don't want to have to add the step of chambering a round; but some people feel the odds of this kind of attack are slim (has anyone on here ever been attacked and successfully defended themselves with their XD?) and prefer the added safety of keeping the pipe empty. I don't disagree with them, it is just a matter of personal preference. Cheers! M2

Do what makes you feel comfortable ! If you are not comfortable carrying a loaded weapon(with 1 in the chamber) then carry the way you are comfortable. Just as long as you do realize that in a situation that would require you to draw your gun that every second counts and the time spent having to rack that slide could mean the difference between walking away uninjured and being injured or life and death.
After I got my first handgun it was about 6 -8 months before I felt comfortable enough to keep mine loaded. At that time I did not holster carry it except when I was at the range. Over time when I got more comfortable and confident that I could unload it safely I started keeping it loaded for short periods of time untill I ultimately started leaving it loaded all the time. Now the only time it is unloaded is when I go and shoot at a local range.
