XD .45 ACP and SWC

I think I read a while back that some of you guys were having trouble cycling SWC'c through the XD. Is this true ? Would some of you like to refresh my memory? Thanx in advance for any and all your help

I've shot a couple hundred Magtech 230gr SWC in my XD45. And had no trouble at all. I think some people have trouble when SWC's are reloaded.

Try a search of the forums...plenty of threads on this.

Here's one: desperate for some reloading advice.

Good luck/

There is some good reading in that thread link above. And I agree with the poster who stated if you are feeding but not ejecting, your loads are likely just too light. Obviously you must watch for pressure signs before and during making small changes.

I used to shoot thousands and thousands of this load in my 1911s:
200 gr SWC, 5.1 gr W231, and OAL of 1.255 to 1.260.

I noticed my seating length is a little longer than some guys use in that thread. Anyhow I have always found that load worked well in 5 different factory stock 1911 based pistols I used to own (includes a full size Colt, Springfield Armory, and Kimber, and a Colt Officer's and a Colt Commander). I haven't tried it in my XD 45 yet, but plan to.

I have the 200gr. plated SWC's from Georgia Arms, and they don't work worth a damn in my XD. They seem to function fine however in the 1911 platform.

The gun seems to "short-cycle" with these loads. I figured it may be the lighter loads not overcoming the power of the recoil spring. It could also be that the ejected brass is catching the shoulder of the next round.
As these are GA's reloads, I don't have component specifics as to powder type and weight.

I'm not sure about the oal. I got rid of all the ones I had,but I tried max oal.,and min.oal the problem was when the spent brass was ejecting it would stop on the sharp ridge of the bullet (max oal.)or the sharp edge of the brass(min.oal.) 4.2gr. Bulleye.Thats about the best way I can explain it.
