Talking Just purchased an XD-45 Tactical

Howdy everyone, my name's Jordan, but you can call me Coc. I recently purchased an XD-45 5", and I've already put a couple hundred rounds of Winchester and PMC 230gr through it, as well as some Federal 185gr JHP, zero failures (even with a new shooter with me that repeatedly eased the slide back). I'm so darned happy with my purchase that I had to go out on the internet and find some folks like me who owned one of these great miracles of human construction.

A few pics of my new buy, they're only with a camera phone but I'm sure it's not the first time you all have seen the Tactical model

quick-access GV-2000 GunVault, so far the best hundred bucks I've spent.

I had a few questions about cleaning, but I suppose those will come later. I'm making another trip out to the range tomorrow with a couple of roommates (I live in a split-level house with four other friends), and by round #500, or the end of the day, whichever comes first... it should be ready for its first breakdown/cleaning.

What night sights would you recommend for the XD-45? I'm keen on reputable online shopping places, and my local Cabela's didn't carry them nor did they do any gunsmithing. How tough would it be for one to install on their own?

Welcome to the Forum Coc.

Several people on the forum have used forum sponsors to purchase and install night sights. Most common sights I have seen are Trijicon or TruGlow Trit Fiber Optic. Springfield Armory has a custom shop which will also install night sights.

Good looking gun and always glad to hear about another happy XD owner.

SA will put Trijicon and some others for $95.00, good deal.

I clean mine every 500 or so rounds, but I started running a snake through it after each shooting.

By the way, I really enjoy my 45 as well

Thanks guys.

Could anyone provide a link to somewhere that sells these night sights you speak of? I checked the forum sponsors and found what everyone was talking about... How many of you have installed night sights on your own? I would imagine that they're quite useless if you don't have them lined up correctly. Also, is the Tungsten guide rod for the 5" model a good buy? the gun feels a little flippy in my hands when I'm shooting, especially when i get down to the last half dozen or so rounds in the mag. I don't frequent a range that allows for rapid fire or drawing, so it's not THAT big a deal at this point, but I'm already looking for decent parts to rice it out

Lastly, what are everyone's thoughts on using the Comp-Tac CTAC IWB holster with the 5" model? I noticed on their order form page that they only make it for the service model.

http://www.pistolgear.com/

TruGlo TFO's are sold out at pistolgear and I couldn't wait any longer so I purchased them from ebay. Got them for $91 shipped.

First of all WELCOME!!

second let me see if i can help you with some frustration here.... DO NOT TRY TO CHANGE SIGHTS ON YOUR OWN!! the reason i say this is because very few have been able to accomplish this without messing something up. Infact alot of gunsmiths have been known to tear up a slide or two. For this eason stick with the forum sponsors. not just because they are our sponsors but because you will not hear a bad thing about them from anyone on this site!! Springer persicion and pistolgear.com are the main ones. They are both great guys who stand behind thier work. Also think about what you'd be looking for. Some people like 3 green FO (fiber optic) sights. Some like two green rear and one red front. I actually will be getting factory post rear and the FO red front. This way the focus is only on the front sight without distracting you on the rears. I feel that this will help me with sight acquisition. but that is just me start thinking about what works for you. Also i don't know if you thought about this but make sure to keep reading and posting in the genral discussion also. alot of good ideas happen over there.

Congradulations on the new purchase i will be getting mine sometime after i turn 21..... (6 more months)

Noted... I had a feeling I would get that answer. I might well send it right back off to Springfield if possible, just to get it done right for sure. I'll consider Springer and Pistolgear; I was on pistolgear's website earlier browsing their catalogue.

I'm not exactly sure what the fiber optics look like yet, but it sounds like something I would be interested in. I had the opportunity to try out an FS-2000 with a 3x Aimpoint and a fiberoptic red dot CQB sight mounted above it (absolutely sick.) The Fiberoptic worked really good for targets inside 25m, but then again it was projected on a little screen for me. Other than that I have no prior experience with fiberoptic sights.
(I'm fairly new to firearms... less than 3 years experience and even less than that with handguns.)

From where I come from (somethingawful) this is a commandment, so I guess I should know better. I will lurk around the other subforums a bit tonight.

And thanks
