I'm refering to ammo wise, I was thinking Magtech 230 gr. fmj's. atlantisarms.com has it for 50 rd for 11.75 plus shipping I believe.

BTW This is my first gun and my friend who has been shooting alot likes anything that goes bang, which doesnt help. Any advice will greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry to say, but your friend is on the right track. For practice, if it feeds reliably and won't damage your gun, you should shoot it. If it's cheap, that's a bonus. Lots of the forum members shoot Winchester White Box (WWB). Cheap, reliable, easy to find.

Carry ammo, however, should be chosen with care. 100% reliability in all aspects of the ammo is essential. Cost should be a minor concern. After all, what is your life worth?

I like to run a mixed bag through a new gun to see if it will be problematic with anything. Conversely, running ball, hollowpoints, and semi-wadcutters through a gun right off the bat with no malfunctions is a nice confidence builder. I also like to run a lot of whatever will serve as the "duty" ammo for the gun - this can sure get expensive, especially with Hydrashocks, but really is essential is you will be depending on the gun.

WWB .45 auto FMJ 100 pack goes for $22 and change at my local WallyWorld. Right now, it's the cheapest practice ammo I can find. However, Ammoman.com has Federal 123 gr. FMJ for $149 for 500 rnds. Tempting....
