Experiance With Springfield Customs
Has anyone used Springfield Armory's Custom shop to have trigger work done on a XD45. I am worry about sending it to somewhere else to have work done on it and having the warenty voided along with any litigation that could transprier if I use it in a deadly force encounter after non factory work has been done to it.

This one will be debated, but my attorney has advised to leave the gun as it came from the factory, however, if I were going to have it modified that only the OEM manufacturer (Springfield), should do the work.
He felt the only thing I could purchase elsewhere may be the sights. Now, Springfield has done a lot of work for me as I'm only 20 miles from the plant and I have no complaints whatsoever - yep, their prices are a little higher than some, but I think their quality and service are worth it. Remember, they also offer various 'Trigger' modifications and you should probably stay with the 'Carry' option for legal reasons. but again, I'm pretty certain others will have a different opinion...

I never thought that a gunsmith modding a firearm would ever give me any legal problems if I used it to defend myself. Is this a common legal defense?

Just my opinion
I think that only getting factory mods for weapons to be LEGALLY carried for self defense stems from lawsuits by the bad guys family members. They attack you, you stop the threat, their family will sue you. Because Johnny was a good guy, he just was'nt takeing his psych meds.
This is because the bad guys attorney could and propably will use those modifications against you by saying that you were out looking for a gunfight and never thought of other options, such as backing away, OC, control holds or whatever. The "So you think you are a gunfighter" attack, NEVER say kill, "I was trying to stop the threat" Remember, if you are forced to legally defend yourself or others with your firearm, it will be taken and examined inside and out. So, if you have that nice and expensive Kimber in the drawer next to the bed and you have to use it, well dont plan on getting it back anytime soon after its taken.

I'm also wondering what a SA custom trigger is like.
Thanks, Tony

Did a trigger for a State prosecuter a couple weeks ago, on a carry gun no less...
Fear what you will, carry what you want. Who cares if they take your gun if you have to use it, it better work the way YOU need it to, or everything else is pointless.

Springfield custom shop said it would take appoximately 4-6 weeks at present time. Now I just have to be ready to part with it for that amount of time.

Springfield Custom made a mistake. Part 1
Got my Tactical Bi-tone back from the custom shop the other day. It now has a carbon steel slide. Thanks Springfield!
Myself and Springfield are in the early process of fixing things. Hope they don't forget to put the new sights I ordered on the replacement slide. Had requested the following services from the C/S and repair dept. Replace stainless slide for cosmetic issues Combat trigger job Black T all internal small parts stainless Guide rod Heinie Slantpro nights sights. I'll keep you all posted on how this one goes.
