Safe Queens
You know - the more I shoot the XD, the less I shoot my other favorites.
The XD just doesn't fatigue me as much as my other pistols. My Makarov and PCR seem like bucking broncos in the hand compared to my 45ACP monster. Lower calibers but perceived recoil seems more with the smaller but heavier guns. Just seems sharper and abrupt. I am still in the transition faze of converting from DA to SA. It has been a big deal for me. I've been double action since my first P-38 back in the eighties save a few .22lr's. It is going nicely but I still feel I have to be more careful with my XD. Too easy to load, cock, and be on station with a light trigger. I've unintentionally double tapped (bang, bang and stayed on target) just used to those heavier triggers of DA's. It is a monster to feed too - just eats and eats and eats. If it keeps it up I'm going to have to get an XD-9 range pistol and make my XD-45 my carry piece. Good timing too - it means I can get a new XD at lower prices as the demand for the 9mm tapers off and 45 ramps up. Poor safe queens - feel kind of bad for em. Croatia, like Rodney Dangerfield, gets no respect! HK/Glock - don't need one now. |

Before the dissolution of Yugoslavia, the Republic of Croatia, after Slovenia, was the most prosperous and industrialized area with a per capita output perhaps one-third above the Yugoslav average. The economy emerged from a mild recession in 2000 with tourism, banking, and public investments leading the way. Growth, while impressive at about 3% to 4% for the last several years, has been stimulated, in part, through high fiscal deficits and rapid credit growth. The EU accession process should accelerate fiscal and structural reform. (CIA World Factbook). They have also been a part of NATO's Partnership for Peace since 2000. They are also a candidate for the European Union. So, much like Dangerfield, they really deserve a lot more respect then they get! Cheers! M2 |

My 1911's have also become safe queens since I started shooting XD's. My XD45 is about the same size as a Commander and holds 14 rounds vs 8. Can't beat that!

My glocks have become safe queens as well.. actually when i got my sig 2022 the glocks kind of got left behind allot. Now that I have a few XD's the glocks rarely come along. My sig is right there not about to budge but the XD's out number him by 3 to 1. He better becareful or might be kicked out of the club house (range bag).

Thanks for the info ...
I had the opportunity to buy a $225 HS when they were first imported and passed because of the country of origin. Just did not know if they made anything besides of Yugo's - and we all remember them. I was still kind of skeptical of combat tuperware too - all metal guy until a month ago.
I should have taken a chance back then. I would have owned a ton of HS's by now if I had taken a chance. Only question I've not researched out of laziness - wonder if Croatia was a Muslim dominated area of old Yugoslovia. Not that it really matters - just curious. Old Yugoslovia made some really crazy surplus guns coming on the market including a P-38 / Beretta fusion design. (As seen in Shotgun News) High cap mag, modern mag release / P-38 exposed "luger like" barrel, hammer drop safety, and walther style flat spur hammer. Wonder why Walther never thought of such an animal instead of the P-88 at the time. It could have been the P-6 after the P-5 line. |
