Don's "Fat Rod" Question
Is there a fat rod for the Service 4 in. model. I ordered the rod last week and of course when I received it, it was for a "Tactical". Thanks for the info...

We have all been waiting for one for several months now...no idea when and if it will happen....my understanding from Bar-sto is that they are working on a 1 piece solid SS one with spring combo...last phone con I had with them was before the end of the year...same with Fire Dragon...they may come up with one soon. For now, I'll be content with the cheap 2 piece captive one I have.... |

Although Don is working on one, I know that both Novak Hangunners Outlet and Canyon Creek Custom are both close on releasing their versions for the Service and Tactial. Rich is making a rod out of Tungsten, which will help ease the recoil of a 45ACP factory load a bit.

So is that the point of this mod, lessening recoil? Or is the guide rod prone to break in the .45? Does it really lessen recoil that much? I guess I'm having a tough time understanding why so many people do this mod.

Don's Fat Rod replaces the stock guide rod in the XD45ACP Tactical model. The rod is heavier than the stock rod and it looks nicer.
On the Service model, the reason to switch is to be able to tune the gun to a spring weight that is best for you and your loads. The captive stock setup does not allow for this. ![]()

Thanks for the info. I wasn't paying attention when I ordered. Just bummed when I found out there isn't a rod yet. I will look for a post when someone has one available.

Thanks Old School I guess that was what I was missing, I didn't know there was no way to change the spring rate.
